🚀 Industrial Autonomy & Open Process Automation – The Future of Process Control? Reflecting on an insightful conversation from ControlGlobal’s coverage of YNOW2024, where Yokogawa's journey from Industrial Automation to Industrial Autonomy (IA2IA) was discussed. Mitsuhiro Yamamoto of Yokogawa highlighted some major strides toward achieving autonomy, from enhancing DCS operability with collaborative AI to the evolution of digital twins and Open Process Automation (OPA). 👉 Yokogawa is actively advancing three pivotal milestones in IA2IA: 1️⃣ AI-enabled autonomy – with algorithms like FKDPP driving stability and efficiency. 2️⃣ IT/OT convergence through the Collaborative Information Server, empowering data analytics and predictive maintenance. 3️⃣ Integrated robotics – DCS-initiated autonomous robotic missions to respond to site issues and integrate real-time data. Yamamoto also emphasized Yokogawa’s commitment to social responsibilities, including sustainability and addressing labor shortages which is an increasingly crucial challenge in our industry. As an end-user in manufacturing, however, there remains a need for a more balanced industry approach. Process Automation Systems/Industrial Control System (PAS/ICS) often operate in a conservative framework, with product direction influenced by a limited pool of stakeholders rather than a truly competitive or collaborative community. A strong, globally represented “end-user council” could promote an open, win-win approach that aligns with the rapidly advancing demands of the industrial sector while balancing lifecycle perspective after having the ownership.
