The client uses a sandtray, water, and hundreds of miniature objects to create scenes, designs, and pictures which reflect the conscious and unconscious contents of the psyche. Through the play and sandplay process and the relationship with the therapist, the client can address traumatic events, regulate emotions, increase executive functioning, foster individuation, and access the healing power of the Self.

Here are some simple ways to tap into it: Draw or paint your emotions – it’s not about perfection, just let it flow. "When we are first born, before we can speak or use language to express ourselves, we use our physical sensations, our “body sense,” to guide us toward what makes us feel safe and fulfilled and away from what makes us feel bad. As we develop into adults, it becomes easy to lose touch with these crucial mind-body communication channels, but they are essential to our ability to navigate social interactions and deal with psychological stress, physical injury, and trauma. Combining a ground-up explanation of the anatomical and neurological sources of embodied self-awareness with practical exercises in touch and movement, Body Sense provides therapists and their clients with the tools to attain mind-body equilibrium and cultivate healthy body sense throughout their lives." "K'hiel Anker is a pioneer of safe, powerful, effective psychedelic therapy and men's work. When his path into manhood was turned upside-down during a poorly facilitated Ayahuasca retreat in the Amazon which nearly took his life, he decided to take matters into his own hands and create a solution to the problems of unsafe psychedelic experiences and rites of passage. He is now a fully apprenticed medicine guide who synthesizes both ancient wisdom and modern psychology to provide comprehensive, safe, initiatory experiences with psychedelics."

When working with the body, one of the first things to recognize is the close connection between the felt sense and awareness. It’s like observing the scenery around you, but in this case, you’re sensing it from within. Awareness, in this context, is about experiencing what is present without the need to change it or interpret it. Whenever you catch yourself thinking, “This means…”, you might be stepping out of simple awareness and into the realm of interpretation, which is more about psychology than pure experience. While interpretation and meaning have their place in healing, especially when it comes to trauma, the foundation of this work lies in direct, unfiltered awareness. At this stage, it’s crucial to focus on what you are experiencing rather than what you think about it. By staying with the felt sense, you create a space for true healing to unfold naturally, rooted in the body’s wisdom. I’ll share more on this in the coming posts, but for now, let’s practice tuning into our experiences just as they are, without judgment or analysis.
