The Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) has released a comprehensive guide titled "Nature and Biodiversity: A Guide to Development." This informative resource delves into Biodiversity Net Gain (#BNG) and Natural Capital Accounting within development projects. Aimed at aiding project managers and developers in balancing critical infrastructure with thriving natural environments, the EIC's Nature Guide emphasises valuable insights, best practices, and recent regulatory updates. Jo-Hannah Rees our Ecology Coordinator, is the co-author of this significant guide. #Sustainability #Biodiversity #InfrastructurePlanning #NetGain #Nature

First introduce in 2021, the new Biodiversity Net Gain regime is now (finally!) starting to come into force. Any builder, land-owner or developer applying for planning permission will now have to demonstrate: - how the development will impact on biodoversity, and - what measures will be put in place to enhance biodiversity on the site. Check out the link to learn more about the BNG from my colleague Andrea Newman.

Over nine days, we are sharing the 9 different sections of The Global Biodiversity Standard manual for assessment and best practices. TGBS does not just provide an assessment and certification scheme, but also offers mentoring to enhance biodiversity outcomes. Section 7 of the manual covers the various mentoring services that are available for applicants. The partners of TGBS have a diverse range of expertise in biodiversity, ecosystem restoration & land management, working from global to local scales. We are currently developing three key modules that will be on offer to applicants: A: TGBS Essentials: Designed to help applicants understand TGBS and effectively pass through the submission process. B: TGBS Sustainability: Designed to ensure the long-term success and impact of certified sites. C: TGBS Enrichment: A range of specialised lessons on topics that include ecological restoration techniques, genetic conservation and seed-based restoration, plus much more. In the recent insight article, Poppy Cunningham PIEMA, Sustainability Manager, ISG, highlights the UK's biodiversity crisis and the country's new mandate for a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain. Emphasising comprehensive training and intelligent ecology practices, Poppy underscores the opportunity for the industry to make a lasting impact and attract talent committed to sustainability. 🗨️ “Sustainability is not just about construction of course; it requires a holistic approach that includes preserving, protecting, and enhancing the natural environment. As an industry, we must prioritise intelligent ecology practices, with early-stage engagement serving as a crucial foundation.” Read the full insight here ➡️ https://ow.ly/7CzC50Sp0u3 #Sustainability #Construction #Biodiversity

🌳 Building with Biodiversity in Mind Building regulations are hogging the headlines in the industry at the moment, but an area that has received little in the way of explanation or education is biodiversity. In our sixth Voices in Construction Insight Panel recently, we highlighted the importance of biodiversity net gain in planning permission - and the need for greater awareness. You can find out more in the article we wrote based on the panel discussion here: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e_uZcjme #ConstructionLaw #BuildingSafety #SustainableDesign #buildingcontrol #biodiversitynetgain

To empower stakeholders to understand their environmental footprint better and align with global sustainability goals, a specialized capacity-building session was tailored for the Oil and Gas sector. The session was focused on key areas such as: --> Ecology and Biodiversity --> Ecosystem Services --> Natural Capital Valuation --> The TNFD Framework and its newly amended outcomes It was inspiring to engage with forward-thinking professionals who are committed to embedding biodiversity into their corporate strategies. Together, we can build a sustainable and resilient future. #Sustainability #OilAndGas #MRPL #sustaina_greens #Biodiversity #NaturalCapital #EcosystemServices #TNFD #CapacityBuilding #EnvironmentalLeadership #SustainableFuture #learnwithsustaina

🌟 Exciting Achievement! 🌟 I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed the Advanced Practitioner-Level Training on Identifying and Delineating Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). 🌍📚 This intensive course provided deep insights into the principles and methodologies for recognizing and mapping areas critical for the conservation of global biodiversity. I had the opportunity to enhance my skills in ecological assessment, data interpretation, and applying international standards to identify KBAs. This knowledge will be invaluable in contributing to global conservation efforts and ensuring the protection of our planet's most vital ecosystems. #Biodiversity #Conservation #KeyBiodiversityAreas #EnvironmentalProtection #Sustainability #ConservationScience #ProfessionalDevelopment #BiodiversityCredit

How can developers prepare for Biodiversity Net Gain? Biodiversity is firmly on the global construction industry's radar, and the UK is leading the way with the upcoming Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) mandate for developers in England, coming into effect in 2024. Voluntary disclosure policies such as the Science Based Targets for Nature (SBTN) and Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) which address the embodied impacts throughout the value chain, are also emerging. Join James Thornton, Biodiversity Product Owner at One Click LCA, and Emily Cole, former DEFRA policy advisor, in this session about the growing importance of biodiversity in the construction industry.
