Here are impactful ways to show our appreciation: Support Veteran-Owned Businesses – Choose veteran-owned companies when shopping or sourcing services, or give these businesses a shout-out on LinkedIn to boost their visibility. Donate or Volunteer – Organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, Team Rubicon, and Fisher House Foundation provide essential services to veterans and their families. Donating or volunteering time can directly benefit veterans’ quality of life. Engage Personally – Reach out to veterans you know, whether they’re colleagues, friends, or family members. Acknowledging their service and listening to their stories can be incredibly meaningful. Send a Letter or Care Package – Organizations like Operation Gratitude make it easy to send letters or care packages to deployed troops and veterans in hospitals. Support Mental Health Initiatives – Many veterans face unique mental health challenges. Camaraderie can be described as the deep friendship and trust built between people who spend a lot of time together. This bond is further strengthened when facing adversity and difficult situations. That deep trust in having each other's back. ⁠ ⁠ This is a huge part of military life, serving together, often in difficult and hostile situations, when having trust in each other is vital. ⁠ ⁠ On leaving the Armed Forces, it is the camaraderie that so many miss, and many find it hard to make the transition into civvy street. Because civvy street is just so different. Surrounded by people who just don't "get it," without those shared experiences. This can be an isolating experience, a lonely time for many. ⁠ ⁠ Sadly this feeling can be amplified when military service is cut short through injury, illness and difficult battles that end a career, a lifestyle, a community. ⁠ ⁠ This is why the SWV support pathways are so important, not just because of the support on offer, but because of the sense of community and camaraderie that can be gained from attending these events and accessing the help on offer. Most of these veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar have gone directly to our program services for veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the veteran chooses to live and continues its relationship with the veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives. Veterans Fast Facts: There are more than 2.5 million post 9/11 military veterans that have served our nation Over 2 million served in Afghanistan and Iraq, spending 1 out of 3 years serving overseas. 30% of vets have disabilities as a result of their service. Over 48,000 vets are homeless or at risk. 40.7% Feel like a “guest” in their own homes. 84% of veterans say that the American public has “little awareness” of the challenges facing them and their families. 60% are under the age of 34. 22 veterans commit suicides daily, with 1 occurring roughly every 80 minutes. The number is higher for Special Forces. 71 % of Americans say that they don’t understand the problems faced by those who have served since Sept. 11. 88% Joined the Military to SERVE our Nation. 94% are PROUD OF THEIR SERVICE!
