Understanding the hydrogeology of a site is key to preparing an accurate and efficient dewatering design. Knowing the geologic setting helps determine the type of dewatering system necessary and the practical methods for installation. Learning about the depositional environment is key to understanding how a particular soil may behave and changes that may occur during dewatering system installation and subsequent pumping operations. Crisis Management of Accidents in Hydraulic Structures: In March 2024, the PIANC Inland Navigation Commission published a report of the Working Group WG-241 "Crisis Management of Accidents in Navigation Hydraulic Structures". It is a result of a team work by 10 international experts that I had an honour to work with. The report was already presented in English by my colleague members an myself on various conferences and on the recent PIANC Congress in South Africa. In addition, I have published an article about it in the Polish language magazine "Inżynieria Morska i Geotechnika" (Maritime and Soil Engineering). If you are interested or if you happen to deal with accidents in your practice, please feel encouraged to read it. https://lnkd.in/gYNMB3x3

How a Lack of Awareness Affects People's Access to Water Before the Construction of a Building To many people, accessing water is the simplest and easiest. Due to that, people tend to neglect the importance of planning where they could locate their water wells before the construction of buildings. However, the importance of accessing water through Geophysical approach is consider inconsequential as a result of our familiarity with it. We often talk about how important it is in our daily lives. We often preach about it as "one part of our lives." We often discuss how we can't do without it, but we pay less attention to accessing it. In my years of experience as a groundwater specialist, I've seen people prioritise the construction of buildings over water while procrastinating their water well project until the completion of the building, believing it could be done after construction. Yes- some are lucky it works out due to favourable geology of the environment. I've also seen people with gigantic buildings wallowing in complaints as they couldn't access much water due to the unfavourable geology of the environment. It's high time we put our water first before construction. Strategic planning should be made by engineers before construction and the right experts, like geoscientists, in locating the right place to drill before construction. Water shouldn't be only discussed; it should be prioritised and valued in every aspect of construction. #WaterAccess #ConstructionPlanning #Geoscience #GroundwaterSpecialist #GWYN #RWSN

We’re excited to share that the New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS) has released new guidance to help geoprofessionals better identify and evaluate landslide risks. Landslides are New Zealand’s deadliest and costliest natural hazard, but this new guidance marks a significant step forward in ensuring consistent and effective evaluations. Richard Justice, Principal Engineering Geologist at ENGEO and lead author of the guidance, emphasises the importance of this document in providing clear and consistent advice for site investigations and hazard assessments. Yesterday saw the third instalment of Ternan Energy's Ask Ternan Q&A webinar discussing Geotechnical Engineering issues facing the Offshore Wind sector 🌊💨 In case you missed it you can watch it using the link below; but I can say that it was a lot more enjoyable (for everyone) than this screenshot suggests! 😂 🚨 Spoiler Alert! A group of Geotechnical Engineers think that the main limiting factor to maximum monopile diameter will be the installation and not the design, fabrication or transportation. Imagine that! Also turns out they don't like rocks. At all. Go figure. #askternan #offshorewind #smileandwaveboys
Thank you to everyone who attended our live Ask Ternan Q&A webinar yesterday. Thank you also to the expert Ternan team Mark Finch, Dr Keith Lauder, Adam Caton and Ewan Fielding who answered all your questions on geotechnical engineering.
