Hiring salespeople can be frustrating. We’ve all been duped. For every great salesperson, there are hundreds of bad ones who tell a great story: “Sales is sales. I can sell to anyone.” - without having ever sold to your target market "I'm a natural born salesperson!" - without providing concrete examples or evidence of past success “I'll do whatever it takes to meet my targets!" - without considering the feasibility or ethical implications of certain tactics "I'm a closer!" - without discussing their approach to relationship-building or customer retention Sound familiar? I’ll bet you’ve interviewed this person, and maybe even hired them. Charismatic & a great conversationalist—convincing you, in the moment, you’re getting exactly what you need. But then you find yourself scratching your head because you realize they’ve said a whole lot of nothing except buzzwordy buzzwords that effectively sold you on why you should keep them in the running. Want to change this scenario and hire with clarity? Start by asking the right questions. Questions that highlight strengths and bring awareness to areas needing some TLC. I’ve created a competency-based interview guide to help you do just that. Struggling to find salespeople who do the job? For many founders, Hiring “unicorn” salespeople who can handle everything from sourcing leads to closing deals is a constant headache. But what if I tell you: The problem may not be with the talent pool—it’s with the role itself? When salespeople are expected to do it all, they’re set up for burnout and inefficiency. Instead, I'd say, consider shifting resources to build a strong marketing pipeline, so your sales team can focus on what they’re best at: closing deals. Curious how this shift can transform your hiring? Watch the video to learn more.

Every time I share this tip, people get upset. 😬 I can’t find good salespeople! My hires never stick around! How do I spot talent quickly? I always make the wrong choice! My trick: Ask just one question. Chances are 👇 ↳ You're already asking too many questions. ↳ You're not asking the right one! ↳ You're stuck with hires who don’t fit. (Fun fact- The right question can save you time and money) So... 1. If you want to find top sales talent fast 2. If you want to hire people who stay 3. If you want your sales team to do well Ask them, Can you tell me about an incident where you closed a tough sale? The answer will show their experience, strategy, and persistence. We forget sometimes—the sales process isn’t about us. As consultants or agencies, we’re focused on selling OUR expertise. But what about the prospect?? Hiring you means they need to make a commitment... It could be... 👉 Launching a product that their audience will actually love. 👉 Building a business and with it, navigating lots of ups and downs. 👉 Putting themselves and their ideas out in the world to be judged. 👉 Taking a career risk that may not payoff. And most of us at some point have hired someone - and can empathize with the pressure of that. There’s so much emotion baked into that decision—fear, self-doubt, uncertainty—that has nothing to do with you or your expertise. I understand the impatience - I really do. But looking at it from their perspective is key to building trust during the sales process. It’s not just about pitching your value; it’s about making them feel confident in their own. How do you find the right people for a sales team? Rich Feola explains that he uses a proprietary behavioral assessment in the hiring process, focusing on how candidates will perform in work situations. While personality tests like Myers-Briggs are useful, Rich’s assessment is based entirely on work behavior, ensuring he hires individuals with the right skills and mindset for sales.
