Ever feel like you're just being spun around in circles, trying to keep up with the relentless pace of change, innovation, and disruption? It would be nice to feel like you've got some kind of anchor. Some fixed point of stability from which to adapt and iterate. With his newest book, Pivotal: Creating Stability in an Uncertain World, Stephen Shapiro helps us "build a robust foundation that supports future shifts without wasting valuable resources on bright, shiny objects or fleeting fads." If there was ever a time many of us needed this type of strong foundation, it's now. Getting my copy today!

Thought leaders who are the very best create books that people can use. Over and over. To help us get out of tough spots. I've been fortunate to be in the inner circle with Stephen Shapiro as he wrote, rewrote, edited, revised and now completed his 32 month journey toward this book, Pivotal. He's done the work to make the book a perfect combination of practical and original. When you read it (yes, buy it today), you'll think, "that's why I've been so stuck before and wow, I see a way out." The punchline is that we need to stop being in love with that ever-famous "pivot" and start falling back in love with digging in deeper to our customer relationships, our core talents, our secret sauce, our superpowers. Don't love em and leave em. Discover what's truly pivotal and double down on it. Bravo, Stephen, for doing the process with a community and for making a book that's incredibly useful (and funny and personal and might I add...PURPLE.) #innovationdoneright #pivotal #ecosystem

Spring Framework founders Dr. Rod Johnson Johnson and Juergen Hoeller Josh Long on the 20th Anniversary of Spring Video. Very good background infos about the success and success secrets of the de-facto Java server enterprise open-source framework! How it changed and still influences the JEE WWorldFrom struts alternative, annotation adaption, independent spring portfolio projects, backward compatibility, balance between innovation, ease of use and longevity. Eg Cloud, AI, DDD, Microservices, polyglot Persistence, reactive etc. Long live SPRING over Broadcom/VM take over. Keep your path in the future 🤓thanks for inspiration and solid base for building scaling applications

Kubernetes Network Policies are not your enemy While preparing for the CKAD exam, one of the realizations I had is that I don't really understand NetworkPolicy documents and their semantics. As one described it on LinkedIn, they are somewhat "grizzly" and can get a tad daunting. I highly recommend watching this CNCF video by Ahmet Alp Balkan that explains this concept very easily and makes it more accessible to the public: https://lnkd.in/dRSNn8m7 I guess that a few of the gotchas about the syntax/semantics I've noticed were: 1. The empty/null syntax which selects all Pods: `spec.podSelector: {}` 2. Deny all semantics - omitting `spec.ingress` altogether is equivalent to `spec.ingress: []` 3. Allow all ingress - adding `spec.ingress: [ {} ]`, note the list with an empty condition vs (2) specifying an empty list (very subtle) 4. Logical OR vs logical AND - using podSelector and namespaceSelector within a single condition implies a logical AND vs. using them as separate list items implies a logical OR 5. OSI layer - it operates only on L4, so no http headers based filtering or the cool stuff you could do with Istio for example at L7 Furthermore, one of the limitations of network policies is that they are a namespaced resource and cannot be applied cluster-wide, so for example if you have new namespace created, you won't be able to gate them with network policies out-of-the-box which leaves your cluster security posture at risk (yes frontend Pod that wants to connect to a db pod, I'm talking to you!). You could work-around that using generators with an admission controller or truly apply it by using a service mesh like Istio or a CNI like Calico/Cilium. It can get very daunting and takes somewhat time to master them, don't get frustrated ;-) #kubernetes #kubernetessecurity #networkpolicies #servicemesh #istio #cilium #admissioncontrollers #ckad
