Indigo has upped its domestic market share to 62% with around 12.98 million passengers. Indigo carried 8.04 million passengers to attain a market share of 62% while Air India carried 1.86 million passengers for a 14.3% share and Vistara carried 1.29 million passengers for a 10% share. Reasons for increase in market share of Indigo Airlines 1. IndiGo benefited from a 7.3% increase in domestic air travel, with over 1.29 crore passengers flying in July. 2. IndiGo's consistent focus on operational efficiency and punctuality has helped it maintain and grow its customer base. 3. IndiGo has been expanding its fleet and adding new domestic routes, enhancing its network and accessibility, which attracted more passengers. After reporting a loss of ₹987 crores for the quarter ending October 2024, the airline, known for its #efficiency and strong market share, has faced significant challenges. The main issue stems from rising fuel costs, which have increased by 12.8% due to geopolitical tensions like the #RussiaUkraine war. Fuel constitutes 35-40% of an airline's expenses, and these rising costs have pressured Indigo’s margins. Additionally, #Indigo faced operational disruptions from grounded #aircraft *(Grounded aircraft refer to airplanes that are temporarily taken out of service due to technical issues, safety concerns, or regulatory requirements. This is why Aviation is one of the toughest industries… despite having a clear lead in terms of market share, for IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd), it was a rough quarter. There are certain factors like geo-politics and supply chain issues which are beyond the control of an airline.
