As we continue to navigate the digital age, applications are constantly being updated and improved to create a seamless experience. One such application is Instagram’s standalone Threads messaging app. It has introduced new features that aim to improve user interactions by reducing risks of harassment and controlling excessive content. The first feature relates to the 'Hidden Words' folder which was rolled out on Instagram recently. The extension of this tool allows users to filter and control the kind of direct messages they receive and can view. Offensive or inappropriate messages, along with any form of harassment, get filtered out into this folder. Users will not receive notifications from the hidden folder, providing a significant degree of control. This feature is available in your privacy settings, with the added function being before opening a message, you will be warned about its potentially offensive content. The second feature tackles excessive content inflow. You will now have the option to be notified only when chosen favorites, specified in-app, post a new update. This ‘Favourites Only’ notification setting puts users in charge of their content consumption. This update addresses concerns about excess notifications and consequently enhances the overall user experience. These updates reinforce the gaming changing need and commitment of social media platforms to foster safe online environments. As Threads becomes an ever more integrated part of our digital experiences, these developments showcase a positive progression towards greater user control and freedom. With the ability to moderate the content we choose to interact with on Threads, it also simplifies the overall social media experience, making it much more user-friendly, manageable, and enjoyable. These innovative features are a testament to how mindful design and operation can significantly improve not only interaction but also digital well-being. It serves as a reminder of how far technology has come and how it continues to evolve for the better. In an increasingly digital world, such updates are crucial in ensuring that users have control over their virtual environments, further promoting online safety and interaction. The power is truly in your hands. LinkedIn has announced that it’s retiring its “#TopVoice” badges for contributing to Collaborative Articles, which, seemingly, has been one of the key motivators for people adding their insights to its AI-prompted content. Originally launched in March last year, Collaborative Articles utilize AI-generated prompts as a starting point, then call on specific LinkedIn users to share their expertise on the chosen topic. Contribute to enough of these posts, and you get a shiny “Top Voice” badge which is displayed alongside your name in the app, adding an extra level of authority to your LinkedIn presence. What do you think of this change? #linkedlin #nobadge

Building a social media app from scratch at 18 without any technical skills is (surprisingly) more complicated than we expected 🫣. It all began one day when, after searching for a good movie for hours, I called my friend Ben, who always has great movie recommendations. And guess what? I loved the movie he recommended. Another time, I found myself reading book recommendations from an entrepreneur on his blog. That’s when it hit me: the best content recommendations come from people you either know or admire. I thought to myself: what if there was an app where users could showcase their favorite movies, books, series, and music on their profiles and share the content they consume weekly? I shared this thought with Alexandre Bansard and Victoire Heyworth, and that’s how YOURS (initially YourThings) was born. We instantly saw the potential—not only would this app provide users with recommendations from their friends and favorite celebrities, but it would also allow them to show who they really are, revealing their true selves through their tastes and interests. We then decided to develop YOURS with the goal of going ‘beyond appearances,’ and revolutionizing content recommendations by focusing on two key pillars: trusted individuals and AI (more on that in my next post). After weeks of brainstorming every features of the app, we hired designers to transform our visions into something concrete. Following countless revisions and sleepless nights, we finally completed the prototype. My co-founders and I then invested all our savings to outsource the development to a skilled team. Despite the daily routine of fixing bugs, our excitement is rising. We can’t wait to share what we’ve created with you. Stay tuned for the launch on the App Store this September 🚀

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙈𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙈𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙩: 𝘼 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙮 I had never installed or even thought about using the Threads app. But here’s the interesting part – for weeks, I kept seeing posts from Threads on my Facebook feed. At first, I would click on "see more," but it always took me to the App Store to download the app. I was curious, but I never actually installed it and just went back to Facebook. Then yesterday, everything changed. This time, the content was too interesting to ignore. I clicked, as usual, and it took me to the App Store. But this time, I decided to install the app and create an account. That’s when I realized – this is the strategy behind Threads. By showing its content directly on Facebook, it gets your attention in a way that feels natural. It’s not about ads, but about sharing content that makes you want to see more. Threads didn’t win me over with ads. It did it with content that felt relevant and too interesting to skip. This is a clever way to keep people engaged without being too pushy. So, have you ever experienced marketing like this? Have you ever been persuaded to try something without even realizing it? Let me know what you think – I’d love to hear your thoughts!

𝐁𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 BeReal is a social media app that encourages users to share a slice of their life in real time. As its name suggests, the focus is on authenticity. Users are invited once a day to share a photo of what they’re doing at that moment, giving friends and others an unvarnished glimpse into their life. It has no filters and no edit buttons. The concept of BeReal is simple. Once you download the app, you get a notification once a day that it’s time to “BeReal.” That means you have 2 minutes to snap and post a photo of what you’re doing, no matter how mundane. The notification comes at random times of the day – adding to the app’s mystique. The result is a social feed filled with unedited photos of people doing mostly everyday, unglamorous things. With only one post a day, there’s no clutter of friends’ pictures to mindlessly scroll through. You can only see friends’ posts if you share a photo, which eliminates lurkers. Source & Image : CNN
