Football can be a powerful tool for #peace building, it is essential to acknowledge that it is not a panacea. To achieve sustainable peace, a comprehensive approach is necessary, addressing the root causes of conflict and implementing long-term solutions. By combining football with other peace building initiatives, such as education, economic empowerment, and social justice, we can create a brighter future for the Rohingya community. Based on that BRAC Community Based Protection (#Community_Group) organized a football tournament to promote and enforce fair play and sportsmanship among players and spectators through clear rules and regulations. And engaged youth in sports to empower them, providing them with opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and skill development. The tournament can serve as a platform for peaceful conflict resolution, as participants learn to resolve disputes through dialogue and compromise.

In light of the ongoing conflict, the LFA announced the postponement to prioritize the safety and well-being of players and fans. The decision comes just days after the commencement of the Lebanese Premier League, which was meant to kick off the 2024-2025 season. With match day two scheduled for September 27 to 29 now on hold, the league’s future remains uncertain. The situation is dire, with the UNHCR reporting tens of thousands of displaced individuals as the humanitarian crisis deepens. The postponement reflects not just a response to the current violence but also a broader call for peace and stability in Lebanon and the region. As the conflict in Lebanon escalates, domestic football competitions, including those in Palestine, are severely impacted, underlining the far-reaching consequences of war on sports and community life. Football isn’t just a sport; it’s a powerful tool for change! Through a play-based, peer-led approach, we use football to educate and empower slum children in Uganda. Here’s why football works: - Low cost and accessible. - Popularity that unites communities. - Builds identity and team spirit. By playing together, children learn health practices, life skills, and teamwork, all through the joy of the game. #FootballForTheGoals

It's disheartening to see how vulnerable individuals often bear the brunt of unethical practices, while those truly responsible remain in the shadows. In the recent case of two young Brazilian footballers lured to Finland under false pretenses, we see how broken promises and exploitation led to a living nightmare. These players were promised professional football careers but were left penniless, hungry, and trapped, with some even pressured to engage in match-fixing. The police closed their case, claiming that the agreements were made outside Finnish jurisdiction. Yet, the individuals orchestrating these schemes, responsible for both the exploitation and the manipulation of lower-league games, evade consequences. It feels like we keep catching the small fish —those directly affected by such scams — while the real perpetrators continue their actions unchecked. This case serves as a reminder of the systemic gaps that allow these exploitative practices to thrive. Until we address the root causes and hold the people behind these operations accountable, vulnerable young players will continue to be victimized. https://lnkd.in/dystXmhs Thanks to Jonatan Karlsson for bringing the story to my attention. #SportsIntegrity #HumanRights #Accountability #FootballScandal #MatchFixing #MoneyLaundering

Thank goodness! The International Committee for Justice in Softball and Armed Conflict has released a statement: Based on the time tested ratio of 20:1 which we stole last year from cub reporter, Rob Weinstein (famed for his headline stories on infant and toddler bears), who previously stole it from Amnesty International, each of our sad predictions, derived from decades of data from attacks and counterattacks between the same parties, have come true. There are now 20 times the amount of dead Palestinians to Israelis following the brutal 10/7/23 massacre by Hamas. The minimum number killed in Gaza now stands at close to 30,000. Which will most likely be upped to 35,000 or 40,000 after all the rubble is cleared and seriously injured people receiving little or no medical attention pass away. This wretched sum will remain firm, and not double or triple, if, and only if, our Decree of Mandatory Game Stoppage and War Cease Fire, once known in wimpish circles as The Mercy Rule, is put into effect. 1) We call for an immediate hostage deal and a cancellation of the proposed assault on the area of Rafah, designed by PM Netanyahu to drive all remaining Palestinians from the Middle East into the small and nonstop loudly yelping Chihuahuan desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 2) Looking at the math again, there is a startling ratio of 250:1 of Palestinian children mercilessly wiped out so far in Gaza by the IDF, versus those viciously murdered by Hamas in Israel last year. Seeing as around 40 dead children is awful, and around 10,000 dead children is awfuller by a lot, we are instituting our strictest sanctions ever. Hamas, for its vile and crazy initial actions, is now suspended indefinitely from all league softball play! At the same time, Israel, for its atrocious and insane eye for a small mountain of eyes revenge strategy, is also suspended indefinitely! In addition, they will be forced to return all of their expensive new team shirts with the preposterous catchphrase, "Easily the Kindest Army on Earth Since 1948" printed on the backs! War is awful, as is most softball. Hence, our decision is final! Respectfully, Bjorn Cleats Senior VP of Endless Battles and Seven Inning Sports Worldwide

Soft power
In the months before Euro 2004 in Portugal, everyone was worried about violent soccer fans. In the previous tournaments fans attacked police, smashed cars and windows, and beat up those who got in their way. The Portuguese government spent more than $20 million on riot-control equipment but social psychologist Clifford Stott suggested approaching things differently. They shifted the philosophy of the project from “fight a thug” to “hug a thug”. The hypothesis behind the new philosophy was that many of the people were behaving aggressively because riot police armed with shields and tear gas created a system of mutual mistrust and fear. So instead of armorring their officers for war, they equipped their social skills: friendliness and ability to connect to strangers. They spend time studying up on the teams and get good at making small talk about the coaches, soccer tactics, and team gossip. Of course they prepared for scenarios when they will need to use force but that was not their default behavior anymore. By using the above approach, during the entire tournament with nearly 2,000 crowd-police interactions analyzed, an incident of disorder occurred only 0.4% of the time. At the end of the tournament, UEFA observed a “sea change.” Lesson? 𝐅𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞. 𝐁𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐠 🔥 #savvastrichas #leadearship

During major football tournaments like the #Euros, incidents of #DomesticAbuse soar. So, we’re kicking off our brand-new campaign, #ChildrenKeepTheScore, to highlight the impact of domestic abuse on families during this time. Research from Warwick Business School revealed that domestic abuse by partners increased by 47% on the day England won a World Cup or European Championship match, with reports of cases involving alcohol 18% higher than average. By addressing the relationship between football and domestic abuse - and promoting positive behaviours - Children Keep the Score aims to create a safer environment for families during the Euros 2024 and beyond. Together, let’s pitch for change and ensure that #Football is enjoyed by all children and families – whether in stadiums, on pitches, in the community or in homes.
