I would suggest this is NOT why you wear fall protection. Why is the MEWP falling over? That's right, because a suitable and sufficient assessment of the ground conditions was not carried out by a competent person and then the equipment was entrusted to a user who also didn't have the competence to make their own assessment of those ground conditions. Harness and restraint lanyard is there to keep operatives inside the platform in the event of excessive boom flex. This guy got very lucky!

And again this is a case of tip over not falling. More focus has to be placed on keeping the machines upright. It’s ridiculous to look at a $100.00 piece of nylon instead of a $125k piece of equipment for safety. We need better engineering from the manufacturers and more competent operators.

I’ll take 2 weeks of mental health days so I can reassess my life please.😳😳😳😳

One of the luckiest men alive!

Falls from aerial lifts are a significant safety concern in construction. According to the CDC, slips, trips, and falls from aerial lifts resulted in numerous injuries and fatalities. Employers must ensure proper fall protection measures are in place, such as tying off at all times when working from an aerial lift.

No matter where you place the blame, the worker still didn't hit the ground...

This. My stepfather passed away from a head injury from a similar malfunction. If he was wearing his harness, he would still be here today.
