📸I didn't take any pictures. Yesterday I keynoted LeadingAge California's Executive Connect Conference. And those pictures from the stage or with participants just didn't happen. I snapped this one after having a deep, trust-building conversation with five women I just met. Instead of snapping pictures with all the women, I was connecting. Conferences are a fantastic opportunity to build deeper relationships that create lasting impact. While photos capture a moment, connections can shape your experience and energize your purpose. Here’s why you should focus on building meaningful relationships instead: ⚡Trust is built communicating: Real conversations foster trust that’s hard to replicate by just snapping a picture together. AND my topic was Unlock Trust: The Winning Combination to Energize and Retain Teams. So I was taking my own advice. ⚡Shared experiences bond teams: Genuine connections lead to stronger collaboration and future opportunities. And collaboration builds trust. ⚡Networking is about value: Offering insights and support to others creates relationships that extend beyond the event. The Executive Connect Conference was all about making connections between operators and business partners. Setting up times to actually learn about the services and the problems they solve was the purpose of the event. Excited to share that our paper, "Designing for Inclusion and Diversity in Big Tech Reports: A Gray Literature Analysis," will be presented at HCII 2024! Our research investigates how leading tech giants—Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, and Microsoft—report on inclusion and diversity within their software product and service design. Through a gray literature review, we analyzed a range of reports from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Diversity, Equity and Inlusion (DEI), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and more. It’s official…. Women in CX ™ Conference 2024 is happening! Only this year, there are a few plot twists! For the past 2 years we have held our Global Gatherings in London in October. But in consultation with our members, this year we have decided to take the magic of WiCX ‘in-person’ across the pond to Dallas, Texas, so more of our members in North America and LATAM can attend🇺🇸 Usually our annual event is just one 1-day, but on this occasion, we are making it 2-days on the 17th & 18th October to allow for more deeper connections to be made! But the biggest plot twist of all…. The CX community is BORED of traditional conference formats, where the audience sit and listen to speakers on stage all day 🥱 They have told us they want to experience something meaningfully different. So our organising committee (led by Diane Magers) have dared us to be ambitious… This year, for the very first time in CX history, we are going to be making this event an UNConference and employing Open Space Technology (OST). An UnConference means informal exchanges of knowledge, ideas, and experiences among all the fantastic women there, ensuring every voice is heard and valued as we tackle some of the biggest challenges in our industry. OST means the participants choose the topics for discussion and with the help of master facilitators, it’s the attendees who create the conversation and develop thought-leadership. Sounds exciting, right? 😎 But to make all this happen, I need the help of my incredible LinkedIn network. 🌟 A Journey of Transformation: YST Conference Reflections 🌟 10 years ago, I stood at the doors of the YST Conference, eager to contribute and collaborate, only to face a barrier that reflected the prevailing norms of the time. Fast forward to today, and the experience couldn’t have been more different. This year’s conference was a testament to the incredible strides made in embracing diversity, fostering inclusivity, and promoting a culture of collaboration - a theme that resonates deeply with my own mission of developing cultural networks. 🔥 Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Inspiring Keynotes: The two keynote speeches were a beacon of the Trust’s new direction, echoing the values of unity and collective growth that I hold dear. Special shoutout to Ken E. Nwadike Jr. and Jon Alexander for their insightful and forward-thinking presentations. 🌈 2️⃣ Mapping Child Personas to Tackle Inactivity - Luke Johnson (he/him) Paul Griffiths representing the depths that Childrens Activity Providers go to - showcasing their work and shared insights, resources, templates, and game-changing strategies to embed customer journey thinking to tackle inactivity for all children. 2️⃣ Unchanged Yet Optimistic - While certain aspects of the conference, like the themes, workshops, and exhibitors, felt reminiscent of the past, the overarching shift in ethos towards collaboration and inclusivity filled me with hope. It’s a reminder that change is a gradual process, and though the seeds were planted years ago, we’re now beginning to see the fruits of those efforts. As I walked away from the conference, alongside my colleagues from Aspire Active Education Group Ltd Paul Griffiths Luke Johnson (he/him) and fellow #AspireActivePartnership business owners, it was with a renewed sense of optimism for the future. The path ahead is bright, and it’s paved with the promise of open collaboration and shared visions.
