If you're preparing to enter the cloud space or are already there and looking for a job, here are some key areas you should highlight in your CV. Make sure to mention these, even if they don't specifically ask. 1. FinOps Demonstrate your ability to manage unpredictable cloud costs. Provide examples where you were successful. If you don't mention this, your chances of joining my team are limited! Yes, I'm going to be a cloud hiring manager in the near future. 😊🙏🏽 2. Security Ensure security by design. Don’t leave security to the security team alone—leave the boring stuff like vulnerabilities and findings to them, 😹🫢. Understand security best practices and security capabilities of the cloud provider you are working on. 3. Data Engineering Most organizations are singing "data is the new oil" song. Don't bring up that song—it's reserved for people who go to conferences every week, 😂🏃🏾♂️. Instead, explain how you will practically ensure consistent data ingestion pipelines, secure integration with private endpoints, and how you will simplify access with role-based access controls. Highlight how you'll make the lives of the data team easier, as many data projects struggle because most data professionals lack this background. Above all, ensure your cloud guru skillset includes FinOps and security—these are a must. Data engineering is a significant advantage. And to look extra cool, mention something about AI, like generative AI or large language models, but do this at your own risk. 😉
