A talented marketer came to me saying: 😟 “My budget has been slashed.” 😟 “The company has been down-sizing.” 😟 “I worry for my future, here.” 💁 “What marketing can I do with zero budget?” Context: - They have sales reps specialized in very niche industries. - They find a lot of their business through LinkedIn. My suggestions: 1. Lean into “Buyer Enablement” – Give website visitors and sales reps information that buyers need to feel confident of their success with your solution. 2. Lean into free distribution of your ideas and insights. “How”? “Where to focus?” 💡 Here’s a Buyer Enablement Framework to leverage! >> Create content that addresses Buyers’ four main questions <<< In this example, let’s pretend that the marketer works at a talent search agency. Q. The template question - what buyers want to know. - Applying the template to a specific example. Q1. Is this the right category of solution to address our situation? - Is using 3rd party talent search agencies the right category of solution to fill our vacancies? Q2. In this category, is this a vendor we should consider? - Is Vendor X a suitable talent search agency for us to consider? Q3. Will we be successful operationalizing this vendor’s solution with our way, our people, our tech stack, our workflow? - Will we be successful in integrating this vendor’s 3rd-party talent recruiting process and needs with our hiring practices, our hiring managers, and our specialized requirements? Q4. Will we be successful in getting an economic benefit with this solution? (When? How can we measure it?) - Will we get great candidates and a better cost than other alternative ways to fill vacancies? How fast? When prospects are not confident saying “YES” to these four buying questions, deals stall. So, giving prospects information that helps them answer these questions is a real help to sales reps who are always encountering prospects with these doubts. Plus, sharing information that addresses these questions on your website, LinkedIn, and other venues where your prospects can be found, is a powerful way to attract attention and curiosity from better-fit prospects who self-select. The insights, expertise and empathy that you show will distinguish your company and people. Indeed, your freely available and easily accessible content answering these questions become a strategic differentiator!! I had a sales call with a potential new client last week about SEO for their recruitment agency, and I ended up suggesting they consider a new website first. That probably sounds a bit counterintuitive given I'm an SEO & digital marketer. After all, SEO’s supposed to drive the traffic that gets leads. The fact is, no matter how good your SEO agency is, if your website isn’t built to attract, engage, and convert, you’re always going to be limited on results. Did I talk myself out of a new client? I hope not but I'd rather give honest advice and do right by recruitment agency owners. There's thousands of self-confessed marketing mavericks out there but I like to think that with 10+ years of helping recruitment agencies stand out online, I’ve developed a clear eye for what makes a website a true lead generator. A solid foundation is always step one—only then can traffic truly turn into growth.
