Making Trust So Strong It Goes Unnoticed Dr. Alex Jadad, MD DPhil LLD FCAHS, Founder, Centre for Digital Therapeutics; Research Professor (Adjunct), Keck Medical School, University of Southern California; Principal, Vivenxia Healthcare This session will examine the essential—yet often overlooked role—of trust in harnessing emerging technologies for patient engagement. Recognizing a sharp decline in trust at all levels, participants will learn about the meaning of trust, the types of trust and its determinants, and the latest data on how much healthcare professionals, academics, corporate leaders, and government agencies are trusted. Participants will also gain insights from large-scale efforts to reconstruct and fortify trust successfully and to align the incentives and actions of healthcare providers, patients, academia, corporations, and the government to achieve groundbreaking outcomes. At the end of the session, participants will be emboldened to imagine, design, develop, implement and scale up audacious solutions that harness the power of trust as the bedrock for advancing patient-centric healthcare in the era of AI. I attended the CRUK Early Diagnosis conference, and it really got me thinking. Many discussions, like the one about AI in teledermatology care pathways, highlighted that we often don't know exactly where in a pathway technology fits best to support patients and clinicians. This work starts by talking to patients and clinicians. It's also crucial to evaluate the feasibility and (potential) real-world impact of technology both before and during its introduction into clinical practice. We need to think about how these new tests and technologies can be used across all hospitals and clinics, not just the ones that specialise in research. After all, what's the point in developing a cutting-edge test if it can only be used in a few places? Infrastructure challenges remain common in the UK, and it is important that we acknowledge this so we can work towards a solution. Reflecting on my own career, I see a parallel journey with the evolution of healthcare research. I started off working on ways to improve medical imaging through biomarker development, then moved to translational clinical research ("from bench to bedside"). Now, my focus is on how we can better implement these new technologies ('implementation science'), how we can get patients and the public more involved, and how we can meaningfully introduce AI in healthcare. Leaving the conference, I'm both excited by the vast amount of knowledge still to be explored and encouraged by the many dedicated professionals tackling similar challenges. There's a wealth of expertise out there, and I'm eager to continue learning and collaborating with this incredible community. #CRUKEDConference24 #HealthInequalities #TranslationalResearch #ImplementationScience #PPI #AIinHealthcare

Personalized Medicine Personalized medicine represents a paradigm shift in the healthcare industry, moving from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more tailored strategy that considers individual differences in patients' genes, environments, and lifestyles. This innovative approach aims to provide more precise, predictable, and effective healthcare treatments for individuals. At its core, personalized medicine leverages advancements in genomics, data analytics, and digital health technologies. By analyzing a patient's genetic profile, healthcare providers can predict susceptibility to certain diseases, customize treatment plans, and determine the most effective medications with the least side effects. This not only enhances patient outcomes but also significantly reduces the trial-and-error aspect of prescribing treatments. Moreover, personalized medicine holds the promise of preventative healthcare. By identifying genetic predispositions to conditions such as cancer, diabetes, or cardiovascular diseases, interventions can be implemented early to prevent or mitigate the development of these conditions. This proactive approach shifts the focus from treatment to prevention, potentially reducing healthcare costs and improving quality of life. The integration of big data and AI in personalized medicine further enhances its potential. Machine learning algorithms can analyze vast amounts of health data to uncover patterns and predict outcomes, enabling more informed clinical decisions. While the promise of personalized medicine is immense, challenges such as data privacy, high costs, and the need for widespread genomic literacy among healthcare providers remain. However, as technology advances and the cost of genomic sequencing decreases, personalized medicine is poised to become a cornerstone of modern healthcare. #PersonalizedMedicine #HealthcareInnovation #Genomics #AIinHealthcare #FutureOfMedicine #PatientCare #PrecisionMedicine #IconsEdgeBusinessLeadership #IconsEdgeExecutiveInsights #IndustryLeaders #IconsEdgeCorporateVision #IconsEdgePerspectives #IconsEdgeBusinessMagazine #ExecutiveEdition #CEOInsights #IndustryMagazine #IconsEdgeLeadershipJournal #ProfessionalGrowthJourney
