One of my clients wanted to increase his sales. Long story short, he was neglecting the front end of his business: business development. He consistently hesitated to attend events, was slow to engage in conversation, and failed to follow up with leads. From the outside, it appeared he had an issue with accountability and wasn't focused on growing his business. He was busy with many tasks that kept him from focusing on business development. Once we discovered the underlying reason for his lack of accountability, we crafted a clear plan together. We included measurable steps, confidence-building exercises, and put the plan into motion. As he worked his plan and we coached each week, his activity level grew along with his opportunities. "Damn… I didn’t realize I had gotten this far out of alignment." These aren't our words but those of Rick Davis. He is the Founder of Coffee Equipment Pros. And a curiosity fanboy... a practitioner of Spark Selling. Lately, he's working closely with Jeff Molander via personal coaching. His words to Jeff left blew our minds. "You know when you just know there’s another way? And when it shows up it resonates with your soul? This is why I’ve invested with you (Jeff). And I appreciate you (Jeff). You fairly criticized questions I’m using to qualify leads -- keeping the strong ones but replacing the selfish questions with facilitations. I see how those were encouraging leads to ghost me, lie or disappear. Plus, we’re tightening them up. I feel like this language connects with my intent and commitment and demonstrates genuine interest." What is this other way Rick mentions? Spark Selling. Spark selling isn't a silver bullet or magic formula to earning engagement. It is a mindset, a practice. And Rick understands this. Even more clearly now. Because before he returned to the academy, he was being clouded by his blind spots. He was out of practice. "I didn't realize I had gotten this far out of alignment," he says. Practice is everything. Fear serves a purpose and we can be grateful for the protector parts of ourselves that aim to keep us safe, but where things may go astray is when the fear alarm goes off and stops us from giving the kind of confident presentations that we are capable of giving. Using this brain dump methodology, of writing all the fears, the thoughts, the negative future predicting down, you can then take your power back. The Name, Claim & Reframe approach can get you back in the driver’s seat. Becoming aware of these thoughts/fears, acknowledging them, heck! Thank them! And then you decide what is real for you! 7moHey Ryan, I love the engagement, interactivity, energy and shared perspectives that come with instructor-led sales training. What I don't like is how a lot of what is taught is forgotten shortly after by the reps and that most external training emphasize education and theory over training an practise.
