What a day! We had Matthew Leibowitz as our guest lecturer, a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft focusing on C# and .NET, who also introduced us to Skia Sharp 🕺🏾. Matthew showed us how to build a replica of a logo interpreter application from the ground up using .NET MAUI and its wonderful features 🔮! It was the process that got me hooked. Before creating the application, Matthew introduced an awesome way of breaking down the project using GitHub. I git why he did this: Created a repository Broke down the project into smaller pieces and labeled them as "Issues" Turned solutions into "Milestones" Linked it to Visual Studio Got to work! This process is not just a process, it's a life/code hack! You not only track the progress of your project but also mentally feel good about conquering the milestones you set for yourself. We also got to see what it's like to do unit testing, which was cool 🕵🏽♂️. Excited to share a game-changing technology for development that more people should consider using: Github Codespaces. Transitioning into a support role, coding in my free time became a challenge due to restrictions on my work computer. Exploring Online IDEs, options like Repl.it and JS Fiddle fell short. Local IDEs like Intellij and Visual Studio Code were my go-to, until I discovered Github Codespaces. In 2006, Graydon Hoare, a 29-year-old programmer at Mozilla, opened his laptop and began designing a new computer language. His goal: to make it possible to write small, fast code without the memory bugs that plague languages like C and C++, the lead to many software crashes. He named it Rust. Rust has become a programming phenomenon, ranking as the "most loved" language in Stack Overflow's developer survey for seven years running (as of 2023). But Rust's success wasn't inevitable. Its ascent was fueled by a perfect alchemy of technical innovation and community engagement. The Rust team created an environment where contributions were valued and new contributors were welcomed. Success isn't just about writing great code. It's about building a community that wants to contribute to your project.That's where the rate of self-selection comes in. This often-overlooked metric measures how eagerly developers volunteer to contribute to a project and it can be a powerful indicator of a project's health and potential for innovation.
