This video is scary. But this is exactly what the software industry needs. This video mentions poor error handling in code a number of times. The topic that interests me a lot. At the same time, when I talk to people about the importance of choosing a programming language, I hear “who cares” way to many times, unfortunately. A programming language is the most fundamental substance or material of your software product. The engineers must know how to use it, what pros and cons of that language are, what trade offs it introduces, what architectural decisions the language enables, what testing strategies are required for the code written in that language. Not to mention all the other challenges in software development and delivery. And yet, lots of engineering leaders mostly care about how easy it is to hire people for their stack. This is also an important topic, true, but I’d argue it is cheaper to train people, than to lose customers or pay massive fines or settlements. I believe, we can learn a lot from other languages. How is it possible that there are languages without exceptions or nulls? There are languages that prevent overflow errors, how do they work? I believe we can bring these and many more ideas into our daily work. Just need to get out there and learn.

We never think about the file/folder structure of a database we're developing. Why are we still obsessed about file/folder structure when writing code written in some 3GL? It doesn't make any sense. Why are we still using such incredibly primitive approach to software development?
