We're getting a lot of calls from folks asking for a re-fresher Connection Lab workshop - just to find comfort and support in our professional community. Few things foster good mental health like really connecting with our peers in a well run workshop. If you and your team are struggling under the stress of recent events, do give us a call. Our workshops are available in-person or on line and as Gabor Mate says, "Safety is not the absence of threat, safety is the presence of connection". Let's connect.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but every day is a mental health day! At the Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg, our members learn to recognize and manage their emotions; build healthy self-esteem; and know when to ask for help. Here are some emotional check-ins you can try to help get kids thinking (and talking!) about their feelings: https://lnkd.in/d8Xu8Jqk

Mental Health Awareness is an issue I am extremely passionate about. Mental illness is an incredibly cruel illness that robs you of your loved ones. It does not care if you are young or old, if you are rich or poor. It does not discriminate against religion or cultural heritage. It could be you, your neighbour or your family. It is unacceptable that people face long waits to access treatment and multiple barriers to the help that they so desperately need, often becoming more unwell during the process. That is why this mental health awareness week I am supporting Minds: No mind left behind campaign. Because EVERY DAY is mental Health awareness day. This is dedicated to the 1 in 4 I see you. I hear you. All minds matter.

May 6-12th is Mental Health week, and this year the Canadian Mental Health Association reminds us of the healing power of compassion and kindness with A Call to Be Kind. Dr. Ann Marie Joyce expands, “Every act of kindness increases connection and creates ripples of joy in the world, because kindness begets kindness. Kindness is not the same as being nice or polite, kindness requires that you have empathy – to understand what the other person might be feeling, and to help them with what they need in that moment. Kindness is never performative, it is an act of deep compassion and connectedness.” Download the toolkit at: https://lnkd.in/gbzDbeBf

How can we support our children and their mental health? By talking and listening to them! Talking with children about their thoughts, feelings and experiences helps their healthy growth and development. When you talk to children openly about their day, you can learn about concerns or problems they are dealing with, help problem solve and build their confidence for facing future difficulties. The more you talk, the easier it is when difficult topics come up! For expert guidance on conversations with kids, go to https://bit.ly/3xEjBiF and search for "Conversation."

Mental health is not “all in your head.” It's intertwined with physical health. And in 2021, nearly 1 in 3 students experienced poor mental health. So in this big, complicated world where everything’s stressful all the time, how can we be supportive adults? And what other kinds of help are out there? On our new episode of Mayo Clinic Kids, we talk with John MacPhee and Dr. Laura Erickson-Schroth from The Jed Foundation (JED) about how to get your teen the help they need, when they need it: https://lnkd.in/gk9jd24e

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month—a time to reflect, advocate, and act. As Post-Secondary Support, Counselor and Social work student, I see firsthand the immense pressures young people face. Mental health is a critical piece of student success, and it’s on all of us to foster environments of empathy, support, and open dialogue. If you're struggling, know that you are not alone. Reach out, and let’s continue to break the stigma around mental health together. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther
