A single day of Black Friday shopping can emit over 380,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, according to 2021 research data. In response to the environmental impact of Black Friday, Green Friday was created to encourage responsible shopping on the first Friday after Thanksgiving. Instead of chasing discounts, Green Friday promotes mindful choices by encouraging consumers to support sustainable and ethical brands—or even skip shopping altogether. This year, Green Friday focuses on supporting local brands and retailers, helping to reduce both packaging and shipping emissions. We support Green Friday and invite you to do the same. It’s easy—simply approach shopping with mindfulness and sustainability in mind, and choose local. #plastagroup #recycling

🌍 Rethinking Black Friday: From Consumption to Circularity ♻️ Black Friday has become synonymous with a shopping frenzy. While the discounts are tempting, the aftermath often includes an overwhelming amount of waste — from packaging to obsolete electronic devices being discarded to make room for new ones. 📦🖥️ This annual consumer tradition reminds us of the pressing need to transition to a circular economy, where waste is minimized, resources are reused, and products are given a second life. Here are a few ways we can all contribute to this shift: 1️⃣ Think before you buy: Do you really need that new gadget, or can your current one still serve its purpose? 2️⃣ Recycle responsibly: If you're upgrading, ensure your old electronics are properly recycled to recover valuable materials and reduce e-waste. 3️⃣ Support sustainable brands: Choose companies that prioritize durability, repairability, and recyclability in their products. 4️⃣ Give items a second life: Donate, resell, or repurpose before deciding to throw something away. At Elektrorecykling, we're committed to promoting sustainable waste management and recycling solutions that align with the principles of a circular economy. Let's use this Black Friday as an opportunity to reflect on our consumption habits and embrace a more sustainable way of living. 💚 #BlackFriday #Ewaste #Weee #Sustainability #CommunitySupport #Recycling #EnvironmentalAwareness #TeamEffort #EWaste #WEEErecycling #RecyclingTechnology #Elektrorecykling

What is Green Friday and Why Should You Care? Black Friday is all about big discounts and shopping chaos, but it often comes with a cost - to the planet and to our wellbeing. Every year, we see the same frantic rush to grab as much as possible for as little as possible, and it’s hard not to feel disconnected from what truly matters. That’s why I’m so drawn to Green Friday. 🌿 What is Green Friday? Green Friday is a more mindful, eco-conscious alternative to Black Friday. It began in 1992 as “Buy Nothing Day” and became Green Friday in 2015, encouraging people to rethink their shopping habits. Instead of impulsive spending, it’s about choosing thoughtfully: - Supporting sustainable, ethical brands. - Buying with intention - only what you truly love or need. - Skipping the shopping altogether and enjoying what you already have. - Choosing businesses that care for the planet, like we do at Duine. Why Does It Matter to Duine? At Duine, sustainability isn’t just a slogan; it’s at the heart of everything we do. From our eco-conscious packaging to the way we source our products, we’ve built our brand on thoughtful choices. Green Friday feels like an extension of that - it’s a chance to encourage mindful gifting and to celebrate self-care that doesn’t harm the earth. Let’s use Green Friday as a moment to reflect on how we shop, gift, and live - making choices that support the planet, our wellbeing, and a more sustainable future. Photo by Nathalie Márquez Courtney

Black Friday doesn’t have to cost the earth 🌍💚 This weekend, let’s rewrite the rules. Shop consciously, support small businesses, and choose sustainable brands that make a difference, for you and the planet. Black Friday's sale and impulse shopping is a deadly combo. In 2023, 80% of Black friday's shopping ended up in landfills. This contributed to 4,29,000 metric tons of green house gases. Big brands are still earning huge and they don't give a shit to adopting sustainability and mitigating climate crisis. What you can do : 1. Shop thoughtfully - Do not buy on impulse 2. Look for eco friendly packaging 3.Opt for in store purchase to cut delivery emissions.

Today, we kicked off IKEA's Black Friday offer. Better than any competitor, if you ask me! 80% is our magic Black Friday number! 👀 80% is how much of a mattress' materials, we can actually recycle, if we collect the mattresses, instead of letting them go to waste ♻️ So that we will do! On Black Friday, you can hand in your old matresses for recycling and get rewarded with a voucher. In Danish we call it 'Madraspant'. We take back both IKEA mattresses and from other brands. We use this occasion to bring attention to a circular stream of products, that we have a solution for. If a mattress is recycled, we save app. 75 kg of CO2 compared to inceneration 🍀 But we need to build the long-term solutions together: IKEA, our competing colleagues and the local municipalities. The future is bright 🌺 www.ikea.dk/pant

Black Friday is known for its amazing deals and the perfect chance to kick off your Christmas shopping. 🛍️ But did you realise that only 29% of electronic waste caused by Black Friday is recycled? Have you ever thought about what happens to most of those products after the holiday season? Many are used just a few times and then discarded—often ending up in landfills. 🌍 The resources needed to manufacture and ship these items are enormous, and return shipping only adds to the environmental impact. This year, let’s think differently: ♻️ Can the product be recycled? 🏪 Can you pick it up in-store to reduce shipping? 🛒 Could you buy second-hand instead? Let’s make this Black Friday a little greener! 🌱 #BlackFriday #SustainableShopping #RecycleResponsibly
