This is so good by Emma Price. When it drops, I drop (things) (to read it) storiesbyemma.substack.com It's interesting and actually funny (very difficult). And it's free so I really think you should take a look and then sign up to it*. It's a list of Things (nuggets) that Emma's seen that are interesting to her and might help spark thinking and ideas. These tend to be about/closely related to storytelling and content gathering. Sometimes I've clocked a couple of them already, but Emma invariably adds a slice of interesting context and then I'll revisit them and get more from it. I think it's brilliant because I'm interested in this stuff anyway, but moreso because Emma's *really* good at writing - feat. just the right balance of self-deprecation. And sometimes you get the treat of extraordinary artwork by the author. Benjamin Brill recommended it on here a few months back. And while we crossed paths at Save the Children, Emma and I really don't know each other, didn't really work together (I think? my memory is ropey as all giddy-up) so her work here is a very happy surprise for me. And I totally get why quite a few people I've worked with rave about her. So I wanted to do the same. Because Linkedin is a toilet bowl that's close to overflowing with self-promotion, but I think there's always some wiggle room for some good shit**. *if you read it and you don't want to sign up to it - absolutely fine. No one is the boss of you and you march to the beat of your own drum. **unnecessary extending of the toilet bit here, apologies to all involved

#Storytelling - True stories often strike you more deeply than pieces of fiction. This is especially true of the Post Secret website. For decades I have been an avid reader of the site, where audience members send in physical postcards confessing to a secret. Then, each week, the site owner posts up 10 scanned postcards he received. There is a strange melancholy to a lot of them. But also, there's something uniquely honest and enlightening about these pieces of storytelling. And the brevity of the postcard format makes them almost haiku-like in their simplicity and depth. As a reader we can only imagine the world outside the borders and worlds of each postcard. To me, it is a perfect example of the "less is more" style of storytelling. For anyone interested in the art of storytelling, it is a worthy corner of the internet to explore. Trigger warning: Some of the content discusses difficult topics that may not be easy for some folks to read. https://postsecret.com/ #stories #nonfiction #writing #creativity

What's your email signature go to? Warm Regards, Kindly, Best wishes, Best, Thanks, Many thanks, Or do you have a unique twist? In gratitude, This sign-off has been one of my favorites for this time of year. As I type the words, it's a reminder to myself to pause and express what I'm writing. Another perennial favorite is: Looking forward, I find this sign off feels authentic almost every time. Forward is the direction that I face. In my life. In my company. In my relationships both personal and professional. Life is too short to live in reflection and rumination. I'm happy that I can focus on moving into the future, creating with agency and hope. #fundraising #writers #copywriters #grantwriting #nonprofits

I often compare ghostwriting to a form of acting. I listen carefully to words a leader uses to describe their work. I take note of the phrases they repeat. I hold onto personal details and anecdotes until they're needed. Writing as someone else is one of my favorite things to do. I know how I might say something, but how would they? How can I take their best stories and ideas and weave them together in a way that makes their message unforgettable? It's a super fun challenge! Ghostwriting is one of the most appreciated services Ruby Brick offers, even though it's often a new concept for many clients. If you have questions about it, feel free to message me! #ghostwriting #nonprofitcommunications #executivecommunications
