#IndiaMiddleEastEuropeCorridor #IMEC: an #ELECItalia Seminar "And yet it moves!" is a famous phrase attributed to Galileo Galilei after he was forced to withdraw his theory that the Earth moves around the Sun rather then viceversa. The same we could say of IMEC, the #Europe #MiddleEast #India new corridor that a few weeks after its very promising launch became the collateral damage of Hamas terrorist attack and the war in Gaza. However different may be the motives of the different players involved (and they are indeed quite different), the expected benefits of IMEC are huge and common. They could push towards accelerating the resolution of conflicts and contributing to stability in the region. The discussion at the Seminar organized by the #EuropeanLeagueforEconomicCooperationItalia and #ECFR coordinated by #TeresaCoratella on June 12, focused on how to link together strategies investment and players, finding common grounds and dispelling mistrust and suspicion from neighboring players and competing routes. After all, controlling for geopolitics, the economics of IMEC is not a zero-sum-game. Its fruits can be multiplied and widely shared. The corridor in fact is not an alternative, but additional and complementary to other East-West routes. Besides it is not simply a corridor but a network and a value chain including infrastructure, logistics, transport but also investment jobs and communities. IMEC gives Europe a precious opportunity to leverage on its vision of the world and its role of stabilizer and pacifier. Provided the EU is able to speak with one voice, engage the whole #panEuropean and #EuroMediterranean space, and bridge #G7 and #BRICS+ in a truly multipolar initiative. It could become a test of a #rulesbased and #inclusivemultipolarism, replacing the current disorderly rancorous and conflictual one. To do that, Europe must create synergies rather than competition with similar projects like the #BeltandRoadInitiative, the #GlobalGateways. the G7 #PGII (#PartnershipforGlobalinfrastructureandInvestment), and must involve China. It must also provide financing and exercise diplomatic leadership. Is this too ambitious and unrealistic? In the short term, probably yes. But IMEC is for the long run and should enable to think of, and prepare for, the world of our grandchildren.

About the forum The Eastern Economic Forum is one of the largest international conferences in Russia. It has been held on the Russky Island in Vladivostok since 2015. The Forum is organized at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who decreed that the event be held annually. And this has been the case, except in 2020, when the forum was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, Putin has attended all editions of the EEF. As a rule, the president’s speech at EEF lasts about half an hour and is devoted to Far Eastern development issues. The subsequent discussion at the plenary session, however, normally goes beyond the subject of the Far East. This year’s Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) will be held on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok on September 3-6, 2024. The main theme of the EEF in 2024 is "Far East 2030. Combining strengths to create new potential." EEF 2024 business activities are broken down into seven thematic blocks: "New contours of international cooperation," "Technologies to ensure independence," "Financial system of values," "the Russian Far East," "People, education and patriotism," "Transport and logistics: new routes," and "Master plans: from architecture to economy." The event is organized by the Roscongress foundation. The title partners for this year’s forum are VEB.RF and Bamtonnelstroy-Most. Sponsoring the event are general partners VTB, Gazprom, RusHydro, Delo Group and Natsstroiproject holding. Rosseti is the strategic partner. Aeroflot will be the event’s official air carrier. TASS is the general information partner of the EEF. (Part Two, The End) #business #finance #financialservices

As Eastern Europe faces the stark realities of Russian re-integration, the resurgence of the Intermarium concept offers a bold vision for regional stability and autonomy. Originating from Józef Piłsudski's early 20th-century strategy, the Intermarium envisions a geopolitical alliance spanning the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic Seas. This idea, deeply rooted in Polish geopolitical tradition, seeks to create a buffer against external threats and assert an Eastern European identity distinct from Western Europe. Today, the Three Seas Initiative revitalizes this vision, fostering cooperation among twelve Central and Eastern European nations. This modern manifestation aims to enhance regional security, economic resilience, and reduce dependency on Russian energy. Supported by the U.S., the Initiative aligns Eastern European interests with Western strategic objectives, positioning the region as a critical player in global geopolitics. Poland's leadership in this initiative underscores its ambition to transform the geopolitical landscape of Eastern Europe. By promoting regional solidarity and collaboration, the Intermarium offers a compelling framework for navigating contemporary challenges, from EU integration to countering Russian influence. In a world of shifting alliances and emerging threats, the Intermarium stands as a testament to Eastern Europe's enduring quest for sovereignty and strategic autonomy. https://lnkd.in/gaPt4-AR
