Super Social Saturday fellow professionals. The challenge I find with many recruiters and hiring managers is explaining how my military background incorporates into the hiring role. I am not alone as this is an industry struggle that many veterans face currently and the past. What most professionals in the Human Resources field don't realize is that not all individuals in the military have a primary task of warfare. For example the famous movie, Full Metal Jacket. Joker is not only a marine but after boot-camp attends further training to become a combat correspondent. Which in the private sector would turn into a career of journalism, social media manager, photojournalist, or company internal communications specialist. A prime example of this, current VP JD Vance was a combat journalist in Iraq. Disagree/Agree with the political side of his nature, the focus is many veterans are not just focused on combat capabilities. There needs to be a stronger effort by the Department of Defense and the recruitment industry to help understand how each Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) translates to the workplace. I have seen this first-hand as many recruiters/hiring managers dont grasp the concept of what a Hospital Corpsman is. Or that Hospital Corpsman can specialize in different roles beyond the limited focus as a HM. My specialty Preventive Medicine Technician – Assist with preventive medicine and occupational health programs such as health and safety inspections and epidemiological investigations. Would translate into Public Health, Epidemiology, Virology or Hospital Administration. However, the only real time I was able to transfer that skill set was my last full time position. Barriers of knowledge by the recruiting industry and knowledge of the kind of specialties veterans bring are looked over by the industry in regards to OJT experience. #SocialSaturday #LookingtoConnect #Connections #Veterans #Military #JobMarket #WhiteCollarRecession #Struggle #Connect #ConnectionSaturday

Reaching out to a recruiter with a vague message like, "Please consider me for any position, I'll take anything," is unlikely to grab their attention. 👻 🌟 Let us help you stand out by including these essential details in your message: 📌 The specific types of roles you're interested in. 📌 A brief summary of your experience and expertise. 📌 Your preferred locations in Ireland. 📌 An updated CV that showcases your qualifications. Also, take a moment to check the recruiter's area of focus. For instance, if they specialise in primary care, occupational health, and aesthetics, they won't be able to assist someone looking for opportunities in emergency medicine. Remember, a recruiter can guide you, but they won't do all the heavy lifting. By providing clear and relevant information, you'll significantly increase your chances of receiving a response and finding the right role for you. 😉 Wishing you the best of luck! ☘

It's all that I know; it's the only way I know how to make a living. This is the conversation I had with a client working in the UK as a medical doctor. He said there are lots of people in this space. In his words, they feel they have invested a lot of time, years actually, in their chosen profession, that it feels impossible to give it up and chase another profession. My dear friends, you deserve to be happy in life, and there is a way out. 1. Plan your risk. 2. Create another source of income. 3. Only when this is established, do you switch careers. Please watch this 1-minute clip from my @Arise tv interview with Aruoture Oddiri where I talk about career transition. "I am Odabor; I help senior professionals excel in their careers. ❤" #careeradvice #jobopportunities #careertransitions #jobinterviewprep #dreamjob #stuck #multinationalcompanies

Can't help but ponder the future of work culture and the significance of values like education, work ethic, and quality over quantity. It's a challenging landscape for new grads, as highlighted in a recent mock job search. Some job listings request 5-15 years of experience for roles suited to 1-3 years, a disparity I noted while having almost a decade of professional experience, 5+ years in Public Health, and 3 years as a specialized Epidemiologist. Experience doesn't always guarantee competence, as encounters with seasoned individuals have revealed shortcomings despite their years in the field. Let's redirect our focus to what truly counts: valuing quality, embracing teachability and humility, and prioritizing team members who contribute through feedback, integrity, and transparency. To EMPLOYERS, in the wise words of my late grandmother, "I say this with love…get it together." We are better and must update our hiring practices along with work culture accordingly. #WorkCulture #QualityOverQuantity #Feedback #Integrity #Transparency

🔎 A Gentle Reminder On Your Job Search: Receiving news that you didn't get a job can be disheartening, but it's essential to maintain perspective. Sometimes, not getting the job is actually for the best. Every recruitment process aims to find the right fit for both the candidate and the organisation. It’s possible that another candidate aligned more closely with the specific requirements or performed slightly better in certain areas. This doesn't diminish your worth or the unique value you bring to the table. Instead of dwelling on the setback, view it as a stepping stone. Each interview, application, and even rejection is an opportunity for growth and learning. It's a chance to refine skills, understand strengths, and identify areas for improvement. To everyone on their job search journey: stay resilient, keep pushing forward, and trust the process. The right opportunity is out there, and sometimes, not getting the job means there's something even better on the horizon.
