I've just released my latest TLA video, diving into a topic that’s sparked more than a few spirited conversations among colleagues and connections in the past (yes, looking at you, Jason Boucher, BA Hons, Cert. Ed. MSET, MCCT. !).
For anyone familiar with SMART goals, you know the drill: Specific, Measurable, Achievable… But for me, these goals often fall flat. They focus heavily on outcome without truly engaging with the process – the actions that get us there.
In my experience, SMART goals can feel uninspired, even rigid. They leave little room for the motivation, energy, and adaptability that keep us invested day-to-day. This is where PACT goals come in.
PACT – Purposeful, Actionable, Continuous, and Trackable – is an approach I’ve found far more engaging. Instead of fixating on a single outcome, PACT goals put the focus on daily actions and continuous progress, bringing flexibility and a sense of purpose to every step of the journey.
I suspect the real answer might lie somewhere in the middle: a clear outcome goal supported by an actionable, continuous plan. But let’s be honest – that wouldn’t make for quite as catchy a title!
💬 What are your thoughts? Have you found a method that combines the best of both worlds? Or do you find SMART goals motivating? Let’s open up the conversation!
