Did you know that fire is a regular occurrence on board ships? 🔥 🚢 However, most fires will go unreported because the fire protection measures on board ship will work so effectively to contain and extinguish the fire – but only if they are being properly maintained. Seawater is highly corrosive, and silt and mineral deposits will build up inside your equipment over time, clogging up the pipework and causing valves to seize, making it more difficult – if not impossible – for your systems to function. This is why annual inspections, as mandated by SOLAS, the IMO and the FSS code, are so vital to ensuring that your fire safety systems continue to operate efficiently when required, and to ensuring that the fires continue to go out. It is also why we advocate for these inspections to be performed by specialist fire safety service providers. Compliance with AS1851-2012 from the Emergency Plan perspective will also be mandatory from mid-February 2025 for any building that the Emergency Plan is stipulated on the Fire Safety Scheduled/Annual Fire Safety Statement or even covered in a Fire Engineered Report that is stipulated.
