Did you know that fire is a regular occurrence on board ships? 🔥 🚢 However, most fires will go unreported because the fire protection measures on board ship will work so effectively to contain and extinguish the fire – but only if they are being properly maintained. Seawater is highly corrosive, and silt and mineral deposits will build up inside your equipment over time, clogging up the pipework and causing valves to seize, making it more difficult – if not impossible – for your systems to function. This is why annual inspections, as mandated by SOLAS, the IMO and the FSS code, are so vital to ensuring that your fire safety systems continue to operate efficiently when required, and to ensuring that the fires continue to go out. It is also why we advocate for these inspections to be performed by specialist fire safety service providers. In our new white paper, we look at the problem of inadequate fire safety inspections and how they’re impacting on safety. Compliance with AS1851-2012 from the Emergency Plan perspective will also be mandatory from mid-February 2025 for any building that the Emergency Plan is stipulated on the Fire Safety Scheduled/Annual Fire Safety Statement or even covered in a Fire Engineered Report that is stipulated. For our industry this means that AS1851-2012 Section 14 Table 14.4.2 and 14.4.3 need to be completed and available for the fire safety assessor together with any other evidence that is required including having baseline data. #baselinedata #AS1851 #AS3745 #emergencyplan #firemaintenance

What does the NFPA define as a high-rise building? According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a "high-rise building" is generally defined as a building with an occupied floor that is more than 75 feet (approximately 23 meters) above the lowest level of fire department vehicle access. This definition helps determine the level of fire protection and safety measures required for such structures, given their height and the increased complexity of emergency response. #FLS #NFPA #KSA #MEP

240521 - FIRE FLOW - further explanation The attach document contains pertinent excerpts from the NFPA 1 and NFPA Fire Protection Handbooks. These screenshots substantiate the application of fire flow requirements to public hydrants. It is important to note that the provision, maintenance and management of these hydrants fall under the purview of the national water utility company. Consequently, this responsibility does not extend to individual building owners. #fire #fireflow #fireinspection #firesafety #fireengineer #KSA #Qatar #SFPE #CFPS
