A bit of an aged article, but take a look at this. Layoffs have a long-term impact on people’s health and finances. One study found that being laid off ranked seventh among the most stressful life experiences — above divorce, a sudden and serious impairment of hearing or vision, or the death of a close friend. Experts advise that it takes, on average, two years to recover from the psychological trauma of losing a job. Let’s be mindful when talking with someone who’s experienced a layoff. #layoffsupport #mentalhealth

🥵 It’s time for you to stop sweating those layoff conversations and instead make a plan. 4 years ago, I sat in a meeting strategizing what to do when our grant funding ended—again. After 12 years in public health, I was used to these conversations. But this time, it felt different. 👉 The funding we were losing was BIG, and I could sense layoffs coming. 👉 Meanwhile, I was already dreaming of leaving to go all-in on my business. I kept telling myself: ❌ “You can’t leave your team high and dry.” ❌ “It’s irresponsible to walk away.” But then it hit me: 💥 The irresponsible thing would be to ignore the writing on the wall. This job wasn’t safe. But my business? That could be. That’s the moment everything changed. I realized staying at my job was the riskiest choice I could make. If you’ve been feeling the pull to leave your job but fear is holding you back, I want you to hear this: 💡 Staying “safe” might be the riskiest thing you ever do. When push comes to shove and the bottom line is getting evaluated, your organization won’t be as loyal to you, as you have been to them. It’s time to make a bold move toward the life and business you’re dreaming of. If this hit home, my programs Resign Design and Exit Plan are designed to help you take that next crucial step: ✨ Exit Plan gives you the clarity to finally leave. ✨ Resign Design sets you up with the business foundation to replace your income confidently (and is coming Q1 2025 omggggg!!) Let’s talk. DM me, and let’s get started building the freedom you deserve.

We're hearing about layoffs very often these days, are you? 😱 More and more workers in Canada are faced with this impact on their employment in recent years for a number of reasons. It's become so commonplace that perhaps we don't bat an eye or even think twice about it when someone says it's happened to them. The Covid pandemic created a lot of change. Some companies were able to push through, but others fell. The success and longevity of a company is only one reason why they might need to conduct layoffs. Why else might there be layoffs and why might they be more commonplace? 💡 Let's briefly investigate a handful of factors that have created a surge in layoffs and normalized them. Layoffs are tough, but it's crucial not to let bitterness take root. Instead, focus on gratitude for the journey and the amazing people you've met along the way. Each connection and experience has shaped you and will guide you to new opportunities. Embrace the lessons learned and stay positive—better days are ahead. An extra bit of appreciation to those who have shared my profile, sent me a message, shared encouragement and tagged me in postings. It means a lot to me and my family. 🌟 #Gratitude #Growth #NewBeginnings #opentowork #recruiter #corporaterecruiter #remotework #remote #talentacquisition

CEO Chris Hyams said, "This was a difficult decision, but it is necessary to simplify our organisation and make it easier to make decisions." The company says the layoffs will help it to focus on its core business of providing job search services to employers and job seekers. He added, "I am responsible for how we got here, and the entire SLT is responsible for making the difficult decisions necessary to help set us up for the future. We know these decisions will have a significant impact on people’s lives. I’d like to share some context for why I believe it’s necessary." CEO: Why are people asking for payrises? We’ve just done layoffs, have no money, trying to close a funding round and theyre already paid well! People Leader: (Deep Inhale)..Because… 👉 You share no funding updates 👉 You share nothing on financial health 👉 The reasons for layoffs were vague 👉 You refuse to share benchmarking data 👉 No one knows their salary band 👉 No ones performance is assessed well 👉 There’s also rumours that Steve in Accounts got a huge bonus to stay after he handed in his notice… which is true …(Deep exhale) Don’t complain about problems if you’re not giving people the information they need. Share what you can. Give context. Open Org #Transparency #TransparentCulture #OpenOrg

Startup hiring is declining and people are reluctant to leave their jobs (even if they're unhappy). Startup hiring is continuing to decline after temporary spikes in Spring. This comes with a slower decline in layoffs and an unsurprising reluctance for employees to leave their job into to an unstable job market. What can you do about it as a job seeker? - 3x the networking volume - 3x the effort put into each contact - 3x the effort in prep - Focus on the high reputation champions in your network to start reputation chains -> You will ask a lot of them right now, but realize how much they will be impacting your life. - Don't just network where there is a "top company" or an open role. Network to discover. Garden and see what grows. Chart courtesy of the always insightful Carta State of startup compensation, H1 2024 by Peter Walker and his team.

What unemployment, underemployment, and layoff resources do you recommend I add to my Unemployment Resources hub? I've not updated it in a while, but several folks I know have been laid off recently. I'd like to bulk up that resource to help them and others. https://lnkd.in/gBbUHnDM My heart fucking breaks every time I see another one of these companies pulling an unorchestrated, last-minute layoff process of doom. You know, the after-hours email from someone a few levels above you for a next-day meeting. Logging in and finding your teammates and colleagues mysteriously deactivated. The absolute lack of compassion and any semblance of responsibility for human life outside the bubble of the Chads and Brads is infuriating. Please drop any and all resources below and I will get them added to my existing resource swiftly. Thank you in advance. That's community support. We're out here helping folks more than their damn organizations are as they carry on and, mark my words, you watch them rebuild, expand, and essentially rehire for your entire team with a little different name so you can pretend you didn't just do what we know you just did. I'm looking at you, Pantheon. Let me go throw up now. I promise to use mouthwash before I come back and start adding these links. Much love, comrades.
