I was such a pleasure to participate in the strategic session on #CCAM at #TRA2024 together with all brilliant co-speakers who shared many thoughtful ideas on how smart mobility would shape the future of transportation.
While representing Member States pespective, both from my Czech and the CCAM States Representatives Group Chair point of view, I would put the emphasis on seeking further strenghtening of coordination and cooperation at all levels to maximize impact of CCAM R&I activities through effective use of existing platforms such as SRG or HLM CAD.
In particular, our continuous focus shall be on the regulatory framework as key enabler for innovative solutions deployment. While the progress at the EU level in setting framework for type-approval has been significant in the past years (General Safety Regulation, Implementing Regulation on Automated Driving Systems), transparent and predictable regulatory steps at national level need to follow to make the CCAM on European roads a reality and to build a general trust.
Simultaneously, further deployment of digital infrastructure is vital for meeting all safety and security requirements as these are also very essential for general public acceptance.
The research and innovation will remain the driving force of CCAM progress while finding practical solutions in many relevant areas. Public authorities should be able to define their priorities and co-design future research topics to address the most fundamental challenges. Simultaneously, we need to contribute to the further enhancement of European competitiveness and knowledge in this highly innovative and progressive mobility megatrend.

The strategic session "CCAM: what next for new mobility services?" emphasised the co-evolution of technology and social innovation, cross-sector collaboration, governance issues, security and privacy considerations to support new mobility services.
Herald Ruijters from EC DG MOVE underlined safety as the main objective of CCAM. CCAM's societal benefits were then brought up as crucial to look into. He also addressed the availability of data for multimodality and the initiative of the European Mobility Data Space.
CCAM SRG Chairwoman, Tereza Cizkova, highlighted three important points for CCAM from a national perspective: regulation, innovation, cooperation.
CCAM Association Chairman Armin Gräter mentioned that the safety validation approach is the key success factor for European CCAM actors. He also highlighted cooperation with Member States, road authorities, and operators as unique in the world.
To break the silos and take the door-to-door perspective, SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking and Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking also joined the debate. There are a lot of challenges in common, and all transport, not only road, will become digital.
