"See everything, overlook a great deal, correct a little."
- Pope John XXIII
This quote from Pope John XXIII reminds us of the importance of maintaining a balanced perspective in life. It suggests that we should strive to observe and understand the world around us fully, but also recognize that it's impossible to address every minor detail or flaw. Instead, it encourages us to focus on what truly matters, while being tolerant of imperfections and only intervening when necessary.

My little books are gentle teachings that bring comfort. If we don’t keep teaching each other, we will forget, and if you’re just returning home to culture and knowledge, this will be a gentle start. My only hope is that by spreading gratitude and love, we will help each other strengthen our connections with Creation and each other and go forward with new generations of empowered, kind and humble Indigenous spirits.

The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” is a timeless ethical principle promoting kindness and empathy. Rooted in many religious and philosophical traditions, its core premise is to treat others with the same respect and care that we would want for ourselves.
While this principle offers a strong foundation for kindness, it's incomplete. It assumes a level of similarity in desires, values, and experiences between individuals, which can be limiting in increasingly diverse educational environments.
Enter the Platinum Rule: “Do unto others as they would want done to them.” This adaptation encourages a deeper understanding of others by acknowledging our differences and striving to meet each person where they are rather than where we are.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of tackling the topic of self confidence at the GIVEN Catholic Young Women’s Leadership Forum. I asked my audience to ponder the dictionary definition of confidence:
“Confidence is a feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances,” as well as a “faith and belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way.”
I disagree with this definition of confidence. I would suggest that life is not about being right.
To really have confidence, we need to be clear on one thing: our identity is to be children of God. Not only that, but children who are beloved. Life is not about controlling things in order to be successful and confident. We don’t have control; we will never have control.
Humility is truth. “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.” (C.S. Lewis) Being rooted in the truth that we are children of God is what provides us with freedom of spirit, which gives us confidence.
In order to live with this freedom of spirit, we can rely on the words of Josemaría Escrivá:
“To live facing God without hiding from Him, not concerning ourselves about how we are seen or understood by others, but always trying to act conscientiously and with right intention.”

Sacred place. This is a place of creative incubation.
A place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are.

“This is a term I like to use now that is 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 today.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦.
Or a certain hour a day or so.
Where you do not know what was in the newspapers that morning.
You do not know who your friends are.
You don’t know what you owe to anybody.
You don’t know what anybody owes to you.
