Chief Sales or Marketing positions play a pivotal role. However, some leaders tend to disconnect from the ground reality of the business, hindering effective strategies. Here are common weaknesses observed in DME companies' sales leadership: - Detachment from the company's obstacles: It's vital for leaders to be in the field regularly to understand the challenges faced by sales reps. Being on the ground is essential to crafting effective strategies and empathizing with the team. In one case a Chief Sales Executive had not been in the field with reps in over a decade. - Building strong relationships with top sales reps: Regular communication and support for top performers are key. Understanding their successes and challenges can significantly impact overall sales performance. There should be a monthly meeting with these top sales reps. - Appreciating top performers: Leaders should value the contributions of top sales reps, even if they earn more. Their success reflects positively on the team and ultimately benefits the entire organization. I once talked with a Chief of Sales who seemed almost threatened by some of the companies top performing reps. - Supporting, not managing, top performers: Leaders should focus on empowering and assisting their top sales reps rather than trying to control them. Collaboration and support are essential for sustained success.
