The Water Positive Think Tank (WPTT) is proud to announce its support for Desalination courses offered by ALADYR on the 27th - 31st of May 2023 at the University of Alicante. The Water Positive Initiative aims to improve water #sustainability and security through effective treatment and utilization of nonconventional water resources (seawater, rainwater, and wastewater), thus positively impacting water supplies and ecosystems. The Water Positive Initiative focuses on the purification and quality of water, not its source. Desalination and membrane purification processes are vehicles that achieve high water quality and reuse. When implemented correctly and by international standards, these purification processes can mitigate the impacts of drought, water health, sustainability, and security caused by climate change and water resource mismanagement. Desalination, membrane purification, and water reuse allow us to tap into previously unused water sources (such as seawater, rain, and wastewater). Technologies have advanced in recent decades, becoming more energy-efficient and cost-effective. With proper planning and management, desalination membrane treatment and water reuse can be part of a sustainable approach to ensuring water security in a water-stressed world! There are still environmental impacts to consider, but these can be mitigated through careful facility design, discharge management strategies, and the integration of renewable energies. With continued innovation and commitment to desalination, membrane purification, and sustainability, water reuse can be transformative in building resilience to drought and climate impacts on freshwater resources. #ElevateWater #WaterTechnology #desalination

World Water Development Report 2024: Industrial and Economic Impacts of Water Scarcity 🌍 Water scarcity has major impacts on industrial sectors around the world. According to the United Nations World Water Development Report 2024, the economic impacts of water-related disasters are serious. Here are some striking data on this important issue: 📉 Industrial Impacts of Droughts: Between 2002 and 2021, droughts caused approximately 170 billion dollars of damage to the world economy. Industrial production is directly affected by water scarcity and faces production interruptions, cost increases and labour force losses. Especially agriculture and water-intensive industries are at great risk during drought periods. 🔄 Water Scarcity and Supply Chain Disruptions: Water scarcity leads to a decrease in water used in industrial production processes and increases costs. Companies may have to reduce or completely stop their production capacity in case of reduced water resources. This leads to major economic losses, especially in water-intensive industries. 🏭 Industrial Innovation and Solutions: To reduce the economic impacts of water scarcity, industries should develop innovative solutions to increase water efficiency. Water recycling systems, water-saving technologies and sustainable water management strategies make industries more resilient to water scarcity. 🏭 Solution for the Corn Starch Industry: The corn starch industry is also greatly affected by the effects of water scarcity. Within the scope of my PhD programme, I am working on a sustainable project to solve this problem. The innovative project we have developed aims to develop a corn maceration system that minimises water consumption. This innovative method makes industrial production sustainable by increasing energy efficiency while reducing water consumption. 💡 Investing in the Future: Industries can minimise the economic impact of water scarcity by investing in climate-resilient infrastructure and water-efficient technologies. Sustainable water management contributes to economic growth by ensuring the continuity of industrial production. It is our responsibility to raise awareness about the industrial and economic impacts of water scarcity and develop sustainable solutions. As industries, we must continue to produce innovative solutions to protect and efficiently use our water resources. 🌍💧 Addressing Water Scarcity with Innovative Solutions 💧🌍 There is a compelling article from The New York Times today that sheds light on a critical global issue: water scarcity. With growing concerns around the sustainability of water resources, innovative solutions are more important than ever. The article highlights the ongoing struggles in Spain with water desalination and the need for more efficient and sustainable technologies. At Trevi, we’re excited to be at the forefront of addressing this challenge with our forward osmosis technology. Our technology uses a natural osmotic process to draw water through a semi-permeable membrane, effectively removing contaminants while minimizing energy use. This not only makes water treatment more sustainable but also opens up new possibilities for providing clean water in areas where it's most needed. As we face an increasingly pressing need for innovative solutions to global water issues, it’s vital to support and invest in technologies that can make a real difference. Check out the NYT article for a closer look at the challenges and see how forward osmosis could be part of the solution https://lnkd.in/gu_AUGJp #WaterScarcity #ForwardOsmosis #SustainableTech #Innovation #Trevi #WaterSolutions #EnvironmentalImpact #CleanWater
