First Food. Then Essentials groceries. Now it's time for medicines to be delivered to our doorsteps. Recently, Swiggy Instamart collaborated with the online medical store Pharmeasy to launch an online medicine delivery service in Bangalore. Unlike food and groceries, things are not as straightforward for medicine delivery service providers. Senior executive of the Chemists and Druggists Association of Telangana, R Srinivas said “Medical shops follow high standards and mandatory infrastructure to maintain medicine quality. How will one ensure the standards and regulations with E-pharmacies?” In the end, there are both positives and negatives of growing instant delivery service companies. The obvious advantage I observe is relief to senior citizens and saving commute time. On the other hand, it’ll be difficult to verify the qualification, quality, and patient description with online E-pharmacies. #epharmacies #medicinedelivery #manufacturing #contractmanufacturing

I got to stumble up on an interesting post by Abhishek Kotekar up on my feed. This really indicates a brilliant issue i.e. disintermediation of channel partners, in the setup of quick commerce, which has been increasingly attracting the retail sector's big boys. Implementing a "shop-in-shop" model within Swiggy Instamart’s dark stores amplifies the benefits, enabling a closer collaboration between brands and platform operators. But why would brands possibly opt for this operating model ? 1.Brands get to control inventory placement 2.Brands get to optimize stock-keeping units 3. With the help of CSO/CSMs a plausible access to real-time sales data all while retaining direct influence on customers choice and buying behaviour. Last but not the least last mile delivery does affect how customers perceive and shape their opinion on a brand.

First Food. Then Essentials groceries. Now it's time for medicines to be delivered to our doorsteps. Recently, Swiggy Instamart collaborated with the online medical store Pharmeasy to launch an online medicine delivery service in Bangalore. Reports suggest similar services will also be launched in other Indian metro cities. Unlike food and groceries, things are not as straightforward for medicine delivery service providers. Senior executive of the Chemists and Druggists Association of Telangana, R Srinivas said “Medical shops follow high standards and mandatory infrastructure to maintain medicine quality. How will one ensure the standards and regulations with E-pharmacies?” It’s interesting to witness how the ground for online medicine delivery is prepared. In the end, there are both positives and negatives of growing instant delivery service companies. The obvious advantage I observe is relief to senior citizens and saving commute time. Finally, 10-min delivery war is moving in the right direction now. 10-min Medicine or Blood (if possible) delivery is much more critical than delivery of vegetables, fruits or drinks in 10 mins. All thanks to Swiggy for identifying this critical gap and working on it with PharmEasy.

The news about Swiggy and PharmEasy trying their hand at express delivery is now a week old. However, as someone who has worked on express delivery at PharmEasy in the past, this still interests me, and it seems that most people have a very positive outlook on the need for such a service. That said, what remains to be seen is how the team addresses the challenges that have made this a tough nut to crack until now: - Maintaining high fill rates, as consumers tend dislike partial bag fills - Keeping an assortment that incurs substantial working capital to meet long-tail demand - Passing discounts to consumers while ensuring both platforms achieve profitability While there are challenges, I believe PharmEasy and Apollo are well-positioned to succeed, given their robust backend supply chain capabilities.
