I am reaching out to discuss a phenomenon that I have observed within our industry that I believe deserves attention and reflection. It pertains to the way emerging leaders, some of whom began with support from others, are now reluctant to extend the same helping hand to newcomers. It is quite remarkable to witness how many individuals, once "cry babies"—those who appeared vulnerable and in need of guidance—have developed into influential leaders. We can all learn from these stories of resilience and growth; however, it is disheartening to notice a trend where these same individuals seem to be less inclined to assist those who are just starting their journeys. This hesitant attitude appears to stem from a fear of competition. The anxiety surrounding the possibility of newcomers surpassing seasoned professionals often stifles the collaborative spirit that helped many of us break into the industry. What gained us our footing—community support and mentorship—now feels like a lost value. As leaders, it is crucial to recognize that fostering a supportive environment for new entrants strengthens the industry as a whole, promoting innovation and collaboration rather than division and rivalry. To those who have benefited from the kindness and guidance of others, I urge you to reflect on the poignancy of your journey. Remember that the success of newcomers does not detract from your achievements; rather, it can enhance your legacy and make our industry more vibrant. We all started from humble beginnings, with aspirations nurtured by the aid of more experienced peers. Let us not forget the importance of mentorship and support. I kindly encourage you and others in influential positions to consider the long-term advantages of uplifting newcomers. By empowering those starting out, you contribute to a robust future where all can thrive. Rather than viewing them as competition, let’s view them as future collaborators who could one day redefine our industry.

This week, let’s start with purpose and remember the reasons we push forward. The next generation of leaders is not just our future—they’re our present hope, our vision for change, and the promise of resilience and strength that our communities need. They bring fresh perspectives, boundless energy, and the courage to push boundaries we may have only begun to explore. I do what I do to help them grow because I know how vital it is to uplift, mentor, and guide these emerging voices. They need to see what’s possible, to feel supported, and to have champions who believe in their potential. The work I put in today is my commitment to a brighter tomorrow—one where our young leaders are empowered, confident, and ready to make a difference. Investing in them means investing in a future where Indigenous voices are not just heard but are leading the way. To the next generation: keep dreaming big, stay rooted in who you are, and know that we’re here to lift you every step of the way. #FutureLeaders #Empowerment #CommunityGrowth #MondayMotivation #Inspiration"

Last year, @Sanofi had the privilege of joining FSG’s inaugural Purpose Studio—a collaborative learning experience for corporate leaders doing the hard work of social change from inside companies. One of the topics we discussed was encountering interference in moving social impact commitments into action within our companies. I personally found it invaluable to share and workshop these challenges with a cohort of my peers. We found that leaders must address interference by developing the enabling conditions for strategy to take hold and flourish. This work can be hard and may require you to call on your relationships, the credibility and trust you’ve built within your organization, the clarity of your strategy, and sometimes courage. The team at @FSG has written an article on navigating interference and building enabling conditions for social impact strategies to thrive. It covers some of the principles from the inaugural Purpose Studio, and I've personally found the insights helpful in supporting fellow corporate changemakers like me. Sonee Kulaga Wilson is a Mission Service Opportunities Specialist with Goodwill of the Columbia and is a member of Leadership Tri-Cities Class XXVIII. She describes her superpower as being able to see the potential in others, and empowering them to achieve their best. Here are 6 questions with Sonee! 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? What excites me most about Leadership Tri-Cities Class 28 is the diversity within the group—coming from different backgrounds, perspectives, and industries—yet all sharing the common goal of growing as leaders to help advance our fabulous community. It’s challenging, vulnerable, and very rewarding thus far. 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐: 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞? I’d love to meet my grandma; she passed before I was born. She raised 5 kids, widowed, in Northeast Thailand (Isan). The rich history of Isan culture, her strength and resilience, and how kind and compassionate she was for all was something I’ve admired growing up listening to stories of her. 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟑: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮? I’ve been described as a connector, and always with a ‘Sonee’ disposition. 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟒: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? I’m passionate about lasting change in our community and region. I’ve thought about apps that give you real-time access to food storage pantries and their inventory, and how to get connected real-time with needed volunteers. With that though, having a regional Innovation Hub - a space where startups, nonprofits, community members, tech companies, educational institutions, and community members can come together and collab on solutions to our region’s challenges would be amazing to work on. The main goal? Bridging the digital divide. I envision the hub booming with mentorship, the latest tech, entrepreneurship and creativity spanning across all industries. It ensures everyone has the opportunity to thrive in our company and region. Want to find out more about Sonee? Click here! https://lnkd.in/g6KZWx4a

𝐈'𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐁𝐀𝐋 𝐁𝐎𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦. 𝐀 31-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 who participated in our 2022 Global Board Training Programme has landed her 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭. But that's not all! She'll also hold 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥. This achievement is a monumental leap forward on 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐬: (1) Board Partners | Board Academy thrives in placing a DIVERSE range of executives on boards across the globe. Replicating this success in #Africa presented a unique challenge. (2) While our initial applicant pool in Africa was impressive – a wealth of seasoned #executives with extensive #board experience – a crucial gap emerged. #Younger African #professionals and #women were noticeably absent from pursuing these board #opportunities. This lack of young talent could be attributed to two factors: firstly, affordability and secondly, existing board experience. (3) Thirdly, many people still hold the misconception that board roles are a retirement perk. In today's dynamic world of constant change and innovation, #freshperspectives from #diverse groups are crucial. This includes not just #racial and #gender diversity, but also diversity of #thought, #experience, and #background. Imagine a #boardroom where #seasonedveterans share wisdom alongside #younginnovators. A table enriched by #globalperspectives and #localinsights. That's the power of a truly diverse board! 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐚𝐩, 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐭𝐰𝐨-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭. #Firstly, we made the Global Board Training Programme significantly more accessible #financially, directly addressing #affordability concerns for #aspiring young board members. #Secondly, we launched the Introduction to Board Leadership Masterclasses. These Masterclasses not only equip participants with #comprehensive board-specific knowledge, but also serve as a valuable stepping stone for those completely new to the boardroom landscape. This strategic shift not only broadens participation, but also shatters the #outdated stereotype that #boardpositions are reserved for seasoned executives. So, to say I am CHAFFED would be an understatement. This young woman's #placement exemplifies the immense value that #youngerprofessionals bring to the table when they are given #opportunities. This is more than just #boardplacement; it's about #equipping and #advocating for the #nextgeneration of #Africanleaders. Asante! 🙏🏾 Board Training Programmes: [email protected] Board Placements Services: [email protected] #AskAsanteOnBoards #AfricaMonth

Celebrating Juneteenth: A Time to Reflect and recommit to DEIB! As we celebrate Juneteenth, a day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, it's a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equity and justice. LEADERS, this is a critical moment to reflect on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) within our organizations. Here's why DEIB is not just a buzzword, but a leadership imperative: · A Stronger Workforce: Diverse teams bring a richer tapestry of ideas and experiences, leading to better decision-making and innovation. · Employee Engagement: When employees feel valued and respected for their unique identities, they're more likely to be engaged and productive. · A More Just Workplace: DEIB fosters a culture of fairness and respect, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive. So, how can we turn reflection into action? · Champion Inclusive Behaviors: Foster open communication, challenge biases, and celebrate differences. · Invest in DEIB Initiatives: Provide ongoing training for leaders and employees, and create opportunities for diverse voices to be heard. · Hold Yourself Accountable: Set clear goals for DEIB progress and track your organization's advancement. Juneteenth is a springboard, not a finish line. Let's use this occasion to recommit to building workplaces that are truly diverse, equitable, inclusive, and where everyone feels they belong. What are your thoughts on DEIB leadership? Share your experiences and ideas in the comments below! #Juneteenth #DEIB #Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Leaders #Managers #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Belonging #Workforce

😥 "If there is no struggle there is no progress" 💯 In a world where people are becoming more closely interconnected respect, dignity, inter-cultural dialogue and tolerance are more essential than ever. 👏 This morning I joined a really thought provoking and insightful First Ascent Group Foundation webinar on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. 🙏 Thank you Simone Robinson CertIoD & Steve Bentley for organising this - it's really appreciated. 👏 The guest speaker was Hon Dr Stuart Lawrence who shared some truly powerful insights and very personal experiences on this topic. 🙏 Thank you Stuart - such clarity & impact! Some takeaways for me included: 🎯 Real change is difficult and never easy - lean into it. 🎯 Create space to have adult conversations on challenging topics. 🎯 Education is a powerful weapon for creating real transformation. 🎯 Lies for some people are truths for others - understand people's beliefs. 🎯 Treat people with dignity & respect - take responsibility for your actions. 🎯 As a parent or leader don't run away from difficult conversations - embrace challenging questions with young people. 🎯 Build real connections - get to know your people properly. 🎯 Technological progress is inevitable, but don't let it jeopardise important social interactions which drive societal progress. #EDI #equity #diversity #inclusivity #connections #socialinteractions #tolerance #respect #dignity #leadership #leadingchange #culture
