The school year began two weeks ago, and I have been positively amazed! These young people are rolling up their sleeves and digging in enthusiastically. I have incredible Logistics Management and Logistics Engineering bachelor degree students here at Fontys University of Applied Science in Venlo, and I'd love to connect them with you. Here's an opportunity for those of you in the Venlo / Euregio area... A few of my 2nd year students are searching for small-scale applied research projects at a production / manufacturing operation for this semester (now through December). Do you have a research question or challenge (read "problem") in any of these topics? Batch size determination Improvement of OEE (Increase throughput) Lean assignments (avoiding waste cost / elimination of waste) Determining and elevating bottlenecks Improve production planning Or other possibilities, not related to a problem, such as... Design of factory Moving from Make to Stock to Make to order (or the other way around) Feasibility check for Automation of processes Design for circularity If you have a topic of interest and can host a group of 4 active students one day a week (Tuesday or Thursday), please let me know, and I'll provide more information. Thank you! Please share this with your network if you know someone who could benefit from our students' research and insights.

Excited to share a personal milestone! In February, I successfully defended my thesis for the master’s program in Operations Management & Logistics at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, where I followed the Capital Goods track. My thesis, titled “Strategic Maintenance Modeling: Integrating Petri Net Simulation and NSGA-II For Opportunistic Maintenance in Multi-Component Systems”, was conducted at Lely and focused on optimizing maintenance processes in dairy farming systems. 🐄 The research aimed to reduce corrective maintenance actions outside business hours by developing a simulation model combined with an optimization framework. This approach led to reductions of over 9% in corrective actions for a single machine and over 13% for a network of machines, while maintaining similar costs and downtime as traditional models. You can read my thesis here: https://lnkd.in/eUgg8ChD I received a 7.5 for my thesis and achieved an overall average of 7.2 for the program. As of October, I have started as a Freight Specialist in the Capital Equipment team of ASML, and will also take part in the two-year Graduate Acceleration Program (GAP). These past two months at ASML have been exciting and enriching. I’m thrilled to continue this journey, grow further, and contribute to the challenging projects we have. Looking forward to this new chapter! #OperationsManagement #Logistics #ASML #GAP #MaintenanceOptimization #CareerJourney #Lely #MasterThesis #TU/e

Ever hear of the KISS principle? In Smart Manufacturing, it is easy to fall to the "curse of the expert". Speaking to those outside (and even inside) the industry with too much detail and depth -- because it all seems so simple to us. But I would venture that to the majority of your audience it is not simple at all. And are quite likely they are hearing it for the first time. When advocating for the manufacturing industry (and for its training and education programs), it is important to be crystal clear. * What skills are in demand * What jobs are available now * What ROI can a student expect * How will the local economy improve This chapter of "The Smart Student's Guide to Smart Manufacturing" is to provide a simple framework to think about complex terminology and make it simple. So we can talk about the important things. https://lnkd.in/emJCVju2 www.smartstudentsguide.com

Have you heard of Supply Chain Management's Micron Spring Project? There's a great writeup in this week's Boise State University News (https://lnkd.in/gAKQpnRc). The collaboration between Micron Technology, the College of Business and Economics at Boise State and the Boise State College of Engineering has brought together a half dozen teams of business and engineering students so far. Mentored by James Kroes, these teams analyze real data to make recommendations regarding complex supply chain and production issues. A large number of participants find the experience so meaningful they go on to work for Micron following graduation. #SCM #supplychainmanagement #analytics
Micron partnership means real-world experience for business and engineering students
