🌍 AI's Environmental Impact: A Growing Concern 🌍 Yikes! One aspect about #AI that isn't covered much is the environmental costs. It take energy and heat to run those massive GPUs etc. As we continue to witness the rapid advancements in AI technology, it's crucial to acknowledge the environmental implications that come with it. A recent article from MIT Technology Review sheds light on the significant increase in carbon emissions from data centers. Since 2018, carbon emissions from data centers in the US have tripled, now accounting for 2.18% of national emissions. With AI becoming multimodal, and more commonplace, this will only get worse. Tech will need to do more in 2025 to address this (carbon offsets? green computing?) if we're going to live long enough to see SkyNet take over!
