In the latest ODID Working Paper, Muhammad Meki explores the impact of equity-like contracts on small firm investment and the role of risk preferences. Combining data from artefactual field experiments, two field experiments, and structural estimation, he shows that equity-like contracts can stimulate more profitable investments, and finds a novel and nuanced role for risk preferences. It appears that the Science Based Targets initiative Board has backed down! Note in the attached screenshot (from a section dated 12 April tacked onto the end of the original Board Statement from earlier this week), it says "No change has been made to SBTi current standards." https://lnkd.in/esGAX_iT Which is precisely the point made by the Staff in its Letter, reality-checking the Board. Essentially, this tacked-on Statement rescinds the previous Statement, and states what should have been obvious in the first place: that this step, if it is implemented, will follow proper due process. Which of course means that the step may not happen at all. Isn't it altogether possible (likely?) that the research / public consultation / Technical Council review would result in rejecting this step? Which makes it weird that the original statement https://lnkd.in/eUbaEXx9 remains part of the document. Wouldn't it make more sense for the SBTi Board to *replace* the original statement with the updated, accurate, due-process-abiding Statement? As well, wouldn't it be appropriate to include a statement of apology and regret for overstepping in the first place? Nevertheless, this is certainly a step in the right direction after an eventful week!
