Remember when people thought elevators needed operators? In the early 1900s, people couldn't imagine stepping into a box without a human operator. The idea of pressing a button and trusting machinery to move you between floors seemed absurd. Dangerous. Irresponsible. Today, someone took a ride in a self-driving Tesla taxi. Their key observation? It feels like a human is driving. The fascinating part isn't the smooth ride, the quiet interior, or even the real-time mapping. It's that moment when extraordinary becomes ordinary. When sci-fi becomes commute. Think about it: 1950s: "Computers will never fit in a home" 1990s: "No one will shop online" 2010s: "Self-driving cars are decades away" 2024: "It feels like a human is driving" And just like elevators, our children will find it hard to believe we ever needed someone behind the wheel.
