The UK Election System is no longer fit for purpose. While we had only two major parties in the race, the first past the post system worked reasonably well. As more viable "opposition" comes on stream, first past the post leaves us with the ridiculous situation that the ruling party may only have 20% or so of the support of the electorate. It is time for an independent review of the electoral system - a re-evaluation that is not subject to the misinformation, scare tactics and downright lies that were put out by the major parties (mainly the Conservatives) at the time of the AV referendum, to scare people out of changing the system. I believe that AV would have been a far better system, avoiding the need for people to vote "tactically" because they don't want their vote to be wasted, rather than voting for a party whose policies they actually support. It would at least mean the winning candidate would have to have a majority of support from the public to win, and more people would be likely to vote knowing that their vote could never be "wasted".

#Vote Today is the final election day of the European Elections in 2024. It's crucial to remember the significance of each vote. Voting isn't just a right—it's a responsibility and a privilege that shapes our future. And their slogan is spot on: “Use your vote or others will decide for you”. It is also an important election day for some Swiss federal votes regarding the environment – our future! For everyone who is entitled to vote, here is a little reminder why: 1.     It’s the most direct way to influence the decisions that affect our daily lives. When you vote, you have a say in the laws and policies that govern us. 2.     Each vote helps elect representatives who truly reflect the diverse perspectives and needs of our communities. 3.     History has shown that collective action through voting can lead to significant societal changes. By voting, you contribute to progress. 4.     Many have fought hard for the right to vote. Honouring their legacy means using this hard-won right to continue building a fair and just society.
