Fascinating day at A New Era of Housing Developments conference. I've come away with a full notebook and a lot to think about! Some initial key takeaways: - now is the opportunity to make change, given the Government's focus on building new housing and the current revision of policy/guidance (inc. NPPF) - there was a consensus across presenters that vision-led planning was the right approach to build sustainable developments that deliver on important outcomes inc. health, environment, social - it may be early days, but there are emerging examples of vision-led planning in practice that can be learned from - there's currently an inconsistent approach across the country. Revised guidance should help to make requirements clearer. I thoroughly enjoyed the event and it was great to meet and learn from people across a range of disciplines.

Earlier this year, we convened a roundtable to explore how planning and design can make our towns and cities more productive. This is both a social imperative as well as an economic one, as a stable and affordable housing market contributes to overall economic stability and growth and must be considered a fundamental right for all Australians. A Think Tank comprised of senior academics, government, private and community sectors generated a series of challenges, solutions and the need for a Multi-Sectoral Systems Approach (MSSA), which are reported in this White Paper.
