Peak is almost here. Are you ready? Malfunctioning equipment, insufficient maintenance staff or missing a key spare part can derail a warehouse operation’s performance during peak. Now’s the time to get all your equipment ready for action. This equipment, which often only runs a portion of the day under normal circumstances, will be tasked with running continuously from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Performing preventative and proactive maintenance and repairs can ensure the machinery can handle the intensity, because once peak hits, there is no room for error. We recommend warehouse operations conduct an annual maintenance program. Our goal at GEODIS is to have all maintenance and equipment upgrades complete by the end of October, with all systems ready to go by Nov. 1. The best way to keep your automation machinery in top form is through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), which can do the heavy lifting of preventative maintenance scheduling, work order management, spare parts inventory management and maintenance history as well as reporting and analytics to help manage a successful program. However, as we all know, even the best laid plans might go awry, so a well-trained and fully staffed automation maintenance team is critical. Spare parts are important section of the maintenance, and any leakage in parts could lead to breakdown that is unplanned cost. From another angel of view, having over spare parts will mean bad using resources, spare parts cost money, and store them cost money and time. The best set is find the right number or spares for each parts in the right place and right time. Spare part Management is an important element of maintenance, and it developed also. Any delay in delivering the spare parts means also delay in the production. The delay could be happening in finding the right spare parts, delivering, processing, and handling. From another angle, having many spare parts will mean extra cost, time, and resources that the companies have to supply. In the attached research (Spare parts management potential in production sector) by Eng. Abbas Al-Bawi in Malardalen University - Sweden, spare parts management system of seven companies has been studied. By comparing of the management systems, they highlight the areas that would have negative or positive impact on the system. They would also analysis why the companies have chosen these systems, how they develop the system, and where they aim throw the development.
