I read a lot, because it allows me to believe (foolishly) that I have greater agency in our world. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”, right? One of the newsletters I get is Crazy Stupid Tech, written by Fred Vogelstein and Om Malik, and the current issue contains an interview with reputation management consultant Ed Sussman. The entire interview is worth reading (sign up via the link to the Crazy Stupid Tech site) if you're interested in Sussman's take on how AI will very likely influence reputation (brand), but here was the most interesting (and on reflection, not that surprising) thing I took away: "Right now Wikipedia is viewed as a super authority by these chatbots. If you want one of the fastest ways to influence AI, get the (client’s) Wikipedia page changed."

LinkedIn posts are amazing but books are even better:) "Society and its powerful gatekeepers need to stop being mesmerized by tech billionaires and their agenda. Debates on new technology ought to center not just on the brilliance of new products and algorithms but also on whether they are working for the people or against the people." When AI is changing the job landscape and social media functions as an advertising machine partly fueled by hatred and algorithms deliberately promoting misinformation, this book is an important read. Essentially, it addresses the nature of technology, progress, and our ability to steer big tech and political decisions in the right direction. The authors present both positive and negative examples from the history of humankind but also propose a way forward so that more people can benefit from technological innovation, not only the top 1% or governments eager to secure their power through surveillance and data collection.

30 Seconds of Wisdom: We’re living in a time where AI is becoming a real part of our daily lives—helping us create, solve problems, and even spark new ideas. But it also is replacing incentives to learn human skills that could otherwise be accomplished by technological tools. But as exciting as all this tech is, it’s important to remember that behind every innovation is a human touch. It’s not just about making things faster or smarter; it’s about making sure this technology actually improves our lives and connects us on a deeper level. As we dive deeper into this AI-driven world, the big question we should ask ourselves is: how do we make sure this tech lifts us up, instead of just running things for us? There’s so much potential, and I’m excited to be part of the conversation as we figure it all out. Together, we can develop a better understanding of what is inevitable and what is actually happening at the speed of light. Unpopular opinion, at least amongst many business leaders and technologists? I think AI has tremendous potential and it’s disappointing to see many companies implementing this technology the same way they did Digital Transformation. The common thread: 1) Treating it as only a technology play (actions, not words, show what a company really values). 2) Massive investment without a strategy - chasing the new shiny thing. Early cost-cutting providing cover for the fact that real business value and the promise of the tech aren’t being realized. 3) People? One school of thought - We don’t need no stinkin’ people – or maybe just the ones to feed the machines. 4) Blaming employees for not eagerly adopting the tech when they haven’t been made aware, educated, or – stay with me here – had any say about what the problems are and what the solutions could be. 🧐 Do you see the similarities? That being said, I see vast potential in AI to help companies advance beyond human-only talent. But to undervalue, misallocate, and neglect our human talent? Big mistake. Let technology take over the grind and enable your employees to be their most creative, innovative and human selves. Your business will be better for it – in the short-term and long-term. There's a battle for the narrative of AI and emerging technologies that's been going on for a while. Who's it built for? Who does it serve? Does it really do what they say it does, or is that all marketing aka hype? The more people fall in love with the technology and what it can do for them, the less they want to know the answers to these questions- if they ever did in the first place. In the AI space, "ex risk" folks go back and forth with the "AI Utopians" on whether they're building AI that's going to wipe out humanity or help us transcend to the 2nd coming. Tech as an industry is often headed by Techno Optimists who talk about how tech shouldn't be restricted and basically unleashed on the world as that's what's best for humanity (complete bollocks, but go off). We talk about "getting a seat at the table" of the tech industry for under represented groups because we understand that tech is very, very much political in how it's ideated, designed, developed and deployed. This understanding- that the tech makers knowledge, biases, wants, needs, values and political leanings, are incorporated in the soul of the machine- is not new. So let's not act "brand new" around the question of whether technology is political or not. Don't worry, I've saved the best "heat" of this rant for the newsletter. Have a read, then have a say if you have any thoughts on the matter. #pasifika #technology #uncommonengineer #pasefika #techcareer #AI #cloud #engineer

Technology's power is reshaping how we interact and think. Machines can now learn and reason, blurring the line between human and artificial intelligence (AI). This creates opportunities, but also threats like AI-generated fake news. Technology can enhance our abilities, but also spread misinformation. Augmented reality can create false experiences, eroding trust in what we perceive. Our increasingly digital lives make it easier to spread misinformation. Social media algorithms prioritize engagement over truth, creating echo chambers and deepening societal divides. Trust, the foundation of relationships, is under attack. Tech platforms prioritize profit, manipulating narratives and spreading misinformation. This constant barrage of information weakens critical thinking and fuels societal discord. We need a "humane narrative" that prioritizes human values over technology's exploitative side. Trust and love are essential for a thriving society. We must: 1. Minimize Self-Interest: Move beyond self-promotion to rebuild trust. 2. Seek Truth: Become discerning information consumers to counter fake narratives. 3. Foster Genuine Connections: Use technology to enhance, not exploit, human relationships. Unchecked technological advancement can have dire consequences. Trust, truth, and love must guide us through the digital age. The time to act is now, to ensure technology uplifts humanity, and doesn't become its downfall. We must act now to create a future where technology serves humanity, not the other way around. It is we humans, who should be driving the driverless car, not by controlling it steering, but determining its destination. After all, we are not non sentient “Human Resources”, but living and experiencing sentient, “Human Beings”. #Humanresources #Humanbeing #digitalage #leadership #businesscoach

Key takeaways from #rewired24 🧠: Investing in digital innovation is crucial for lasting impact. Annual underspend and slippage won't cut it anymore. We need to start investing in methods and products properly to see the results we want. Additionally, it's not enough for tech to be clever. It needs to work for users to reach crucial mass for adoption. Let's keep these thoughts in mind as we continue to innovate and evolve in the digital age. Thanks to the 80 people that stopped by for my talk today on our future of AI. All focused on high impact, easy to implement solution! #digitalinnovation #tech #userexperience
