First ever LinkedIn post, actually first ever post on any social media, but I’ve never had such good reason to post, on multiple fronts. After 18+ years, I will be leaving Corbin at the end of this month to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity at an exciting start-up fund. Eighteen is perhaps the most meaningful number in Jewish culture and tradition because it is the numerical value of the Hebrew letters that comprise the word, Chai, which means ‘to live’. It is so special because Judaism is all about protecting, appreciating, and cherishing life. This is why many Jews have the tradition to give charity in multiples of $18. As I reflect back on my 18+ years at Corbin, it feels like a lifetime. I learned everything I know about hedge fund investing at Corbin. But what I will remember and cherish most are the lifelong friendships and relationships that will hopefully endure. It’s also meaningful to me that all 3 of my kids were born during my time at Corbin and know many of my Corbin colleagues well. That has made Corbin an important part of their lives too. I truly appreciate all my OG and newer colleagues and friends at Corbin. Special thanks to Craig Bergstrom who took a chance on hiring me 18 years ago and has taught me so much about investing. Also to my long-time investment partners Adriana Clancy, Matthew Glasofer, and John Cocke, with whom I’ve sat and invested side-by-side for more than 15 years. Chai (18) is the root of L’Chaim – ‘To Life’ – which we say when we celebrate or toast a happy occasion. With much love and admiration, I wish everyone at Corbin L’Chaim. #corbin #chai #amisraelchai
