DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR RECRUITER After all the interviews and phone calls are done and you have landed the position and you are ready to start on your new adventure, don’t forget about the recruiter who helped you and guided you through all of this. We can get caught up in the excitement of a new position and we should be, but we should also try and remember how we got there. Stay in touch with your recruiter, let them know how the job is going, let them know about any bumps in the road, more ofter than not they may be able to help smooth over those bumps. Your position is tenuous at the start and you have to prove yourself in your new position. Anything can happen, reduction in force, a lost contract for work, a change in management or a change in the structure. These are situations that you cannot control so a good idea is to stay in touch with your recruiter, you may need to reach back out to them sooner than you want to. A recruiter is not looking for praise, knowing that they helped you get started in your new career or helped you with your goal is enough, and staying in touch with them will only help you in the long run. IF YOU CANT TALK ABOUT IT, DON’T WRITE ABOUT IT As a recruiter more often than not we see skills in the technical section of a resume and we sometimes wonder if that candidate has actually worked all of those skills. Qualifying a candidate based on their resume and skills is an important part of a recruiters job, while most recruiters are not going to be experts on every skill that is listed on a resume, as a recruiter it is our job to make sure that we match the skills on the resume with the required skills of the position that we are recruiting for. As a candidate for a position and submitting your resume to that position, it is very important that you are able to talk to the skills that you have listed. It is important that the skills you have listed are shown in the positions that you held and how you used them. A lot of time can be wasted on the recruiter side if we have to reach out to the candidate to ask them to update their resume to show how they used those particular skills. In other words, don’t put a skill on your resume if you have only been familiar with or have knowledge of, unless you state that in your skills list. When you don’t do this, the recruiter will spend more time than necessary to qualify you and in the end, if you can’t talk about it, don’t write about it. REJECTION EMAILS All of us have received rejection emails for positions that we have applied for and most of us will just delete the email because it just frustrates us. Then we still see the job posted and wonder why we didn’t at least get a screening call. Before you get irritated and frustrated it would be a good time to take a closer look at why you were rejected. Sometimes we don’t always get a reason for being rejected but when that happens that is the time to go back and look at your resume you submitted to the position. Self reflection is a very important part of moving forward. Look at the job description, compare it to your resume and see where you were missing the mark. Your skills may look like they match the job but taking a closer look and keeping an open mind you may find that, indeed you really weren’t a fit for the position. By doing this, the next time you apply to a position, you will feel more confident on at least getting a screening. Once you get a request for a screening, that will be the time for you to sell yourself and your skills and that could eliminate a lot of rejection emails Sometimes job postings will stay up long after the position has been filled, hiring managers and recruiters will do this so as to allow themselves to gather more candidates in case a replacement is needed. Reflect on your skills and your resume and make sure you really are a fit for the position that you are applying for. HAVING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE DURING AN INTERVIEW Interviews can be on the phone, video or in person. Whatever interview style is taking place, having a positive attitude will be one of the most important things you will need. Phone interview: During a phone interview, you will be asked different questions about your skills, your previous experience and also why you are looking for a new position. Your tone of voice and inflection when you speak will say a lot about your attitude towards the position. Your responses will tell the hiring manager how interested you are. A good attitude about yourself and about the project will show during your call. Video interview: This interview will be different from a phone interview, your facial expressions will show up on how you answer questions. Excitement about your future and about your skills with show in the smallest change in your expression and the hiring manager will recognize this. In Person: This kind of interview can be the same as a video interview with the exception of body language. Sitting across from a hiring manager and moving around a lot does tend to show that you are either nervous or not interested. Paying attention to what is being said and asking the questions that need to be asked will show your excitement and interest. In short, if you want the position then let your voice and your expressions show how much you are excited about it. 😩🤦🏻♀️ Ever felt the disappointment of learning a job post was just an exercise to “appear transparent” when in fact they were simply moving a contractor to perm. How can we enhance transparency in such scenarios? Some organizations are proactively labeling internal job postings as "Preferred Candidate" right away. This simple tweak helps applicants grasp the situation from the get-go. Let's strive to boost transparency and clarity, not just internally but also in the external hiring process! 🤝 #Transparency #HiringProcess #Openness

A few years ago it seemed as if you couldn't find a person to fill the job you needed. Maybe you were an owner, in HR, or just a manager looking to fill a role. Or is it filtering through 10000 resumes to find someone who actually is who they say they are AND fit what YOU need. That's where we come in. That's why we've been around for 25 years. THE IMPORTANCE OF FEEDBACK Whether you are a candidate or recruiter, feedback is an important part of the submittal/interview process. As a candidate, you are told that your resume has been submitted to the hiring manager for review. As anyone is aware these days, hiring managers as well as recruiters wear many different hats. It is not uncommon for 2-3 days to go by and not hear back about your resume. It is acceptable to reach out to your recruiter to ask for feedback so that you can find out what you may be missing in your skill set or what you need to improve on. Be professional in your request for feedback to your recruiter and don’t get frustrated if they don’t reply right away. It is likely that they haven’t heard back from the hiring manager and getting as frustrated as you may be. As a recruiter, it is also acceptable to reach out to your account manager or if you have access to the hiring manager directly to ask about feedback on your submittals. Asking for feedback gives you the opportunity to talk about the candidates that you have submitted and to get more information from the hiring manager as to why a resume was rejected and also, as it happens very often, the job description and requirements may have changed or the position has been filled or put on hold. Without asking for feedback you could be working on a position that is no longer viable, reaching out to candidates who may be an excellent fit, only to have to tell them that the position is filled, or on hold, etc. Feedback is one of the most important parts of the recruiting process and it should be addressed as soon as possible. As a recruiter, don’t leave your candidate ghosted, any feedback is better than no feedback As a candidate, feedback gives you the opportunity to adjust your resume for future positions.
