As a business owner, exiting your business may seem to be far into the future and therefore, not a huge priority. It makes sense to focus on building your business today, right? Of course it does. But what you may not realize is that concurrent with building your business, you can simultaneously lay the foundation and structure of an exit plan. Optimizing growth requires strategic thinking with an eye on the future and a focus on maximizing your company’s value – the very things that are necessary for a great exit strategy. Many business owners find that a value-based management (VBM) approach empowers them to reach both short and long-term growth goals. Exit planning is simply a component of good business. It provides a detailed, long-term business strategy. It’s a contingency plan with a target date built in – but can kick in prior to that date if needed. It focuses on building and maintaining the value of your business. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Business owners who want to make their business the best it can be – both now and into the future – need exit planning. Join us on September 18 for our next Exit Planning Peer Advisory Group meeting and learn why exit planning is just about optimizing your business. Contact me to reserve your seat.

Business owners, this is a worthwhile read. Early exit planning, well before (like NOW) the actual exit event, is very important. - What is your current transition plan? - Do you really know what your business is worth? - Could you increase the value of your business, and do you want to? - How will you fill your 24 hours after you exit? - How does the harvest of your business value fit into your personal wealth plan? These are important but likely not urgent questions to answer. Happy to discuss with you.

"Exit planning is present tense. An effective exit strategy is a business tool that will create more income today, empower management teams or the next generation to take the business to the next level, create owner independence, and potentially increase the owner’s wealth by 400-500%. In other words, exit strategy is simply good business strategy."

Most business owners view their exit as something far into the future, so it does not feel like a priority. Exit planning is also perceived as something that will be difficult or take a lot of time away from running their business. Instead, exit planning is simply a component of good business that yields a more comprehensive business plan, clarifies goals, and improves your likelihood of success. 2024 could be the ideal time to turn your attention to building exit planning into your business strategy. My blog discusses one of the most effective ways to grow your business, which is to develop a strategy focused on value optimization that carries over into how you run your company. Then stay on track by participating in our Exit Planning Peer Advisory Board.
