Can we nominate savings to the Department of Government Efficiency (#DOGE)? U.S. Army's Human Resources Command would be a great place to start. Decentralize personnel policy and treat soldiers like people. Adopt a regimental (divisional) system like most other armies. Allow direct hiring for positions and tie rank to the position. The recent majors board, which they had to redo and extend the results beyond the movement marketplace is yet another example of the absurdity resulting from the Army's overly-centralized, bureaucratic personnel policy. https://lnkd.in/gcmcvnSu

How about eliminating the 40+ 4 star Generals/Admirals infecting our military. We could start there. Then disperse the folks who support those 4star billets to support roles that DO THE WORK not just hold meetings all day and waste taxpayer money on TDY trips. Case in point, why do military Men and Women need a Chaplain who is anywhere near the rank of 1 star? The only chaplains I’ve ever seen work and associate with “worker bees” were captains. Yes I say we ctrl+alt+del the over inflated upper echelons of the United Staes Military. And yes I support you Division level direct hires. Great idea!!!! -DOL

A big part of the problem is Congress and lazier younger generation. As a former Drill Sgt I saw this writing on the wall in the 90's coming. Not all kids. But the multiple rotations of tour of duties, some six or seven tales a toll on family life. As a Army Reserves soldier I done three year long tour of duties in a conflict zones This has led to the Armed forces and veterans struggle eith ab average of 23 suicides a day. This elephant in the room is still present and hasn't been fixed. The nation needs its force structure bumped up to at least 750K in active duty. Pay is an issue. This is congressional fault. Barracks are out dated, by decades for single soldier base life. For every The current job market has 1.5 - 2 jobs out there for every job seeker, adding to the problem. It's not DEI, so get off that horse. Been been with Dept of The Army 42 years, own my own small defense company. The new pick for Secretary of Defense is going to be in over his head. Go ahead get rid of a bunch of Generals like the big purge of Captains and women in combat roles, and he will sink fast. He narkey had any command time. Let alone run the biggest organization in the world for National Defense. Better address the major low hanging fruit 1st.

Robert Rose another grievous example of the centralized system occurred approximately a decade ago when the Army involuntarily separated CPTs that wanted to serve because the Army was reducing its force structure. Many high performing, strong potential, willing CPTs were thrown out without input from their chains of command. The decisions came from above. Before the very next promotion cycle, the order was reversed; the Army would get bigger. The Army would now need additional CPTs to refill the officer pipeline. By digging deeper into that next year group, we promoted lower performing, less potential CPTs to MAJ. Despite the Army's best intentions, a lot babies we thrown out with that centralized bathwater and left the Army Officer Corps worse off.

Hmmm On the other side, in the USAF, *all* personnel actions are centralized. All promotions are centralized. Including Enlisted. And they ROCK.

In the USAF, if your job involves any of the “My…” websites….eliminate those personnel. I already have to do your job for you anyway. Really loving the Spider-Man meme responsibility pointing between vMPF and MyVector right now…totally won’t screw up any promotions. Ask me how I know…

I am completely behind this proposal. The HRC is a disaster, filled with bureaucrats who don't give a damn. I've seen a lot of good men/women go because their ETS had arrived, and they were tired of the BS. The HRC as it stands is a risk to our national security.

Don’t spend any of the savings, use the amount to reduce the deficit.

The savings are not in cutting people. We all know where it is.The elephant in the room is the weapons. That needs to be streamlined but it has become so bloated that they are all scared to touch it.Kids in school will starve before that happens.

LTG, how can I assist? I'm willing. We have to replenish the well with voluntary service. E-5s and 6s in recruiting offices may be overwhelmed or something?
