3 Takeaways From the 36-Hour Hackathon in the Headstarter AI Program... 1. 🗣️ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲! Adding structure to when everyone will give updates is so crucial. I put this at the top because our team had no set communication schedule. Being in the dark on teammates was a drag on team productivity. 2. ✍️ Fully decide the design 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀. We came up with our idea, UC Advisor (https://lnkd.in/g2YKSA55), as the hackathon began, and hadn't finalized the tech stack. We knew we wanted to use Next.js and Flask, but we fumbled with things like API keys for the chatbot feature, and overall, we didn't have enough time beforehand to familiarize ourselves with our chosen technologies. 3. 📢 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵! Hackathons might be short, but you still have time to reach out to people about your project and even get ideas for new features. The find your major feature on our project was actually given by feedback, and it still made it into the final minimum viable product. Even better if you can do it before the hackathon! Thank you to my teammates Johnny Zheng, Yalamber Subba, and Jason Vu. We accomplished much during the time we had and learned a lot about what we can improve next time. Thank you all for your support, and follow if you haven't already to continue getting updates on new projects and hackathons coming up! 🧑💻

I'm kinda digging shadcn/ui. I'm building out a demo app on jeffreybarron.dev, needed a good data table, and decided to give it a try. So far, I like it. Why? • The embed model makes it super easy to customize things • Lightweight when adding new components to a project • It's built on top of other solid packages like radix-ui There's a few things I'm not too keen on though. Like how deep the component hierarchy is for simple things...I'm looking at you Form components. But that just could be a nuance I'm not quite familiar with yet. When combined with Tailwind it's a really solid launching pad to get small things off the ground quickly.

🐰 Day one w/ the r1 from rabbit inc. and I’m having a lot of fun— The r1’s computer vision understood my kid’s school travel itinerary to instantly create a spreadsheet. The magic trick was when I also told it to add a new column for the activity type of each item 🤯 Overall my experience has been delightful - no invoking wake words for every question, no endless tapping to access a mobile app, the Spotify integration works stellar as usual. It’s your personal assistant on the fly as you’d expect from one of the latest AI companies, just minus having to be stuck at a desk typing prompts. My hunch is this ‘sidekick’ mode of interaction is just getting started - definitely reminds me of the thrill my friends & I had building hackathon apps for the Pebble Watch way back in the day. My advice is go in w/ a dev mindset, try asking lots of questions to test the LLM/LAM, and most importantly have fun!

🎡 Imagine Kubernetes as the World's Most Amazing Playground! 🎢 Picture this: You're in charge of a HUGE playground with tons of fun rides and games. That's what Kubernetes feels like for us tech folks! 😄 🧸 Let's break it down: ▪ The playground = Your computer systems ▪ The rides and games = Your apps and services ▪ The kids = The users of your apps Now, here's where the magic happens! 🎠 Automatic Ride Placement: Kubernetes decides which computer (swing set) is best for each app (kid). 🏋️♀️ Balancing Act: If too many kids want one ride, Kubernetes opens up more of that ride on different swings. 🚑 Boo-Boo Patrol: If a ride breaks, Kubernetes quickly moves the kids to a working one. No tears! 🆙 Easy Upgrades: Want to add a cool new feature to a ride? Kubernetes helps do it without closing the whole playground. 🔍 Playground Monitor: Keeps an eye on everything, making sure all rides are running smoothly. Real-World Example: Remember when your favorite game crashed and you lost all progress? With Kubernetes, if one game server goes down, you're instantly moved to another - game saved! 🎮✨ Why should you care? Because Kubernetes makes apps more reliable, scalable, and easier to manage. It's like having a super-smart playground manager for your tech world! 🌟 #Kubernetes #CloudComputing #TechMadeSimple #DevOps #ContainerOrchestration #TechPlayground
