🇸🇮🤝🇻🇳 We're thrilled to share the success of our recent mission to Vietnam, where a delegation of Slovenian transport and logistics companies showcased Slovenia's strategic role as a gateway to European markets.
Our delegation participated in three dynamic business forums across Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, fostering valuable connections between Slovenian and Vietnamese businesses. A highlight of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SPIRIT Slovenia Business Development Agency and Vietrade Invest, setting the stage for enhanced economic cooperation between our nations.
Slovenia's central European location and the Port of Koper (Luka Koper) offer unparalleled access to a market of 300 million consumers. This strategic advantage positions our logistics sector as a competitive option among European providers.
As Rok Capl, director at SPIRIT Slovenia Business Development Agency Slovenia, noted: "For several years, we have led delegations, organised business forums, and connected businesses through seminars, export support, and trade fairs. With Slovenia's expertise and strategic location, we see even greater potential."
The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement has opened new doors for collaboration, reducing barriers and creating exciting opportunities. We're enthusiastic about the prospects of developing mutually beneficial partnerships that will drive economic growth for both Slovenia and Vietnam. 🌍
This successful visit marks another milestone in our countries' bilateral relations, reinforcing Slovenia's commitment to international trade and cooperation.

Recently, an introductory luncheon was held in Auckland with His Excellency Makoto Osawa, the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand, and Sota Kamihiro, the First Secretary in charge of economic affairs. This presented an excellent opportunity for meaningful dialogue and collaboration aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Japan, Malaysia, and New Zealand.
Representing the NZ Malaysia Business Association Inc (NZMBA) and serving as Special Counsel with Stace Hammond Lawyers, Dave Ananth was in attendance alongside Pam Louis, Secretary of the NZMBA. Their participation highlighted the proactive stance the NZMBA is taking toward fostering stronger ties with Japanese businesses. The lunch was not merely a social event; it was a strategic meeting aimed at exploring potential partnerships and networks that could benefit both New Zealand and Japan in terms of economic growth and cultural exchange.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including trade agreements, investment opportunities, and cultural initiatives that could enhance cooperation. NZMBA expressed its eagerness to work closely with the Japanese Business Chambers in New Zealand to create a platform for meaningful collaborations that would enhance business opportunities in New Zealand.
The alignment of interests between these diplomatic entities and business organizations indicates a shared vision for advancing mutual economic benefits. This synergy could pave the way for future initiatives that not only encourage trade but also promote cultural understanding between the two nations. The commitment from both sides to engage in networking and bilateral discussions suggests that we can expect more collaborative efforts in the future.

NZMBA Strengthens Ties with Australian Consul-General
In a recent meeting, the NZ Malaysia Business Association Inc (NZMBA) took significant steps to enhance its networking reach within the Asia-Pacific region. Dave Ananth, President of NZMBA, along with Secretary Pam Louis and Treasurer Roshidah Mangnall, met with Brad Williams, the Australian Consul-General and Senior Trade Commissioner, for an engaging discussion over coffee.
The key focus of the meeting was on expanding networking opportunities, especially in light of Malaysia's upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025. The NZMBA leaders emphasized the importance of fostering strong business relationships and collaborative efforts across borders to support economic growth and development in the region.
Brad Williams expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative and offered to assist NZMBA by leveraging his connections with counterparts in Australia. This collaboration aims to strengthen business networking and facilitate smoother trade relations between New Zealand, Australia, and other ASEAN countries.
Additionally, the conversation highlighted the potential for increased investment in Timor-Leste. Both parties recognized the emerging opportunities in this new nation and discussed strategies to support its economic development through enhanced business partnerships and investments.

With Melissa Lee, Lo Seng Chai, Muhamad Noor, Ramesh Devadasan and Malvin Singh from the Singapore High Comission in Malaysia during the Japan National Day reception at JW Marriott, Kuala Lumpur on 20 February 2023. The two neighbors enjoy unique, robust (although occasionally testy) bilateral ties, forged by their shared history and profound economic dependence and influences on one another. They have come a long way from the turbulent creation of the city-state after being expelled from Malaysia in 1965 to build a near inseparable, mutually beneficial interdependence anchored on strong political, economic, cultural and familial relations. Singapore is the largest foreign investor in Malaysia and they are each other's second largest trading partner. In a world fraught with conflicts and tension among neighboring countries, Malaysia-Singapore bilateral ties stand out like a shining beacon that serve as a great example of what can be achieved when nations focus on setting aside differences and working together to fulfill common aspirations, interests and objectives.
Why photo opportunity is more important than the substance of a meeting itself?
Starting the second day of APEC summit in Peru, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a visit from the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Arriving at around 09.25 local time, President Prabowo then invited PM Albanese to one of the restaurants in the hotel for breakfast together.
In a relaxed atmosphere, President Prabowo opened the conversation by expressing his gratitude for Australia's support and the representatives who attended his inauguration as President. Recently, Australia's gross domestic product (GDP) of $1.56tn measured in current US dollars, which is substantially larger than Indonesia's GDP of $868bn.
In myopinion, it is quite challenging to meet the KPI of any sales visits. However, in drafting any marketing campaign, you need to have "immediate" results to proceed optimally. Posting videos of such meeting as social media update, can be an important strategy to tell stories to wider audience at home that you are "actually working".
What do you think? In your industry, do you allowed to share your photo op after a sales visit?

Why are Chambers of commerce and other NGO important to develop sustainable business in Vietnam?
Every February and March, organizations hold their annual general assemblies (AGM) to review the past year and plan for the future. Attendance at these events is crucial to show support for the dedicated board members, and private organizations that contribute to their success.
Vietnam, with its dynamic economy and vibrant culture, presents opportunities and challenges for international and local businesses alike. In this context Chambers of Commerce and NGOs serves as “bridge”, connecting international businesses with government entities, local communities, and other stakeholders. Here are my top four reasons for why I believe Chamber of Commerce, like NordCham and alike are so valuable:
🤝 Networking: They're the ultimate platform for creating partnerships and exchanging ideas.
📈 Advocacy: Chambers, like NordCham, ensure businesses have a voice in policymaking, advocating for a more favorable business environment.
🔍 Insights: Offering invaluable market insights, helping businesses navigate and thrive in foreign landscapes.
🌱 Sustainability: They're at the forefront of promoting sustainable practices and innovation, key for future growth.
I hope to see many members at the different AGM to show their support to all the teams that make these Chambers of Commerce so valuable.
