"The UK has seen a stagnation in road safety improvements since 2010, from being a global leader in road safety, it is now lagging behind other nations. Every day, five people die on UK roads, with more than 30,000 individuals killed or seriously injured annually, amounting to a staggering societal and economic cost of approximately £43.5 billion each year." In the shadow of the General Election, we're re-sharing the ground-breaking new manifesto from PACTS (The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety) that provides answers and action that we need to see from the new Government. https://lnkd.in/ej9hnbWK Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety

This great study is of considerable significance and utility. Traffic accidents represent one of the most pressing challenges facing our nation. Three critical factors—driving culture, vehicle quality, and road infrastructure—play a pivotal role in the causation of these accidents.
Interventions for prevention of road traffic injuries Despite the high prevalence of RTI , there are sparse evidence for effective preventive majors in reality . A total of 852 articles were included in this systematic review. Most interventions were related to legislation (26.4%) and enforcement (17.0%), and the minor interventions were related to social marketing (4.9%) and traffic user safety (2.2%). 83.7% of studies took place in developed and high-income countries. Regarding intervention types, legislative and road safety interventions effectively reduced road traffic crashes by 26% and 16.7%, respectively. Most effective interventions (36.1%) were reported during the Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011–2020). Current road safety efforts prioritize changing how people behave on the roads (training, laws, enforcement) over making the roads safer. Focusing on fixing the entire system rather than blaming drivers ("system repair") is necessary for a complete picture #road #injuries #intervention #systematic review #Iran #traffic

Attended the WHO launch of the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023 this morning. > there were an estimated 1.19Mio road traffic deaths in 2021- a 5% decline since 2010. > the global fatality rate stood at 15 per 100’000 population people in 2021- a 16% drop since 2010. > 10 countries ( Belarus; Brunei Darussalam; Denmark; Japan; Lithuania; Norway; Russian Federation ; Trinidad and Tobago; UAE and Venezuela) reduced the number of death by 50% between 2019 and 2021 another 35 countries reduced deaths by 30%-49% between 2010-2021. Still a lot remains to be done. The number of fatalities in Low and Middle Income Countries remains 3x higher than in High Income Countries. Let’s keep fighting to improve these numbers in making our roads and vehicles safer, by developing multimodal transportation systems and by advancing legislation and road user behavior.

Every week is rail safety week, https://lnkd.in/g_8rYFKN Over the last five years, more than 100 Canadians have been seriously hurt or killed each year in railway crossing and trespasser incidents (on average). In 2023 alone, 73 Canadians were hurt or killed because they were on tracks or rail property illegally. Another 32 were hurt or killed at crossings. So far in 2024 (January-June), an average of 10 Canadians per month have been seriously hurt or killed at crossings, or by trespassing onto federally regulated railways. That’s a 33% increase over the five-year historical average. In the first half of 2024, total railway accidents were down 15 percent, but crossing accidents were up 11% and trespassing was up 57%.

There's alot of Road Related Accidents happening, we cannot just sit and wish the government will act and stop them. Road Safety is both an individual and collective responsibility. Let's arise and say no to road accidents. Chukua Hatua, Badirisha Hali! #RoadSafety https://lnkd.in/dp3vfDn4

Road safety: #Council and #European_Parliament strike a deal for better cooperation on #roadsafety-related traffic offences To ensure safer road traffic across #Europe, the Council presidency and European Parliament’s negotiators reached a provisional agreement on a proposal amending the 2015 directive on cross-border exchange of information on road-safety-related traffic offences. The new legislation forms part of the so-called ‘road safety’ legislative package. Stricter and more efficient rules on enforcing penalties for traffic offences, including violations of vehicle access restrictions, will improve safety on European motorways and guarantee safer and greener residential areas across the EU. The revised legislation also ensures equal treatment for all EU drivers irrespectively of their nationality. https://lnkd.in/dDmxgj9k PIARC - World Road Association European Commission European Parliament

🚆 Rail Safety Week unites the rail workforce, law enforcement, government, and community groups to emphasize the importance of safety on and around rail. Regardless of where we live, knowing how to stay safe around rail is crucial. Why is rail safety important? Rail safety affects everyone. Fatalities, incidents, and near hits on the network can cause severe and lasting trauma to rail employees involved. Most of these incidents are preventable. From 2016-2023, there were an average of 83 fatalities per year (7 per month), including 71 suspected suicides, 7 trespassers, and 5 at railway crossings. Additionally, there are almost as many attempted suicides as suicides annually. On average, there are approximately 32 injuries at railway crossings or due to trespassing and around 1,650 railway crossing and trespass near hits reported to the rail regulator each year. Let’s work together to make rail safety a priority! 🚦 #RailSafetyWeek #StaySafe #RailSafety
