Been at Google now for officially two years. For me, Google has been the definition of “Let Engineers be Engineers”. During my two years proposals I’ve made have been taken seriously and implemented. Let me tell you that the imposter syndrome is real, being along side some of the smartest engineers I’ve ever worked with. Co-workers that I know I can trust to get their work done and done well. I think the biggest shock working at Google has been the amount of writing. Everything thing needs to be documented, reviewed, and approved. Now that I’m used to it, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s one of the aspects of engineering that I haven’t had to use before, but it is one of the most needed one. The phrase “if you can’t explain it simply, you don’t know it well enough” rings true. All the documentation allows you to reinforce your knowledge and expand upon it. Being a new father and working for one of the most prestigious companies is difficult, but I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been amazing being challenged both technically and creatively. It’s been two years but I’m still so new and have much more to learn.
So proud of you Ryan!!
congrats!
