It is time for an overhaul of Australia's health system, but the question is how? I think more should be taken back under the public health system so Australian lives are not impacted by the bottom line. Or is it as simple as tweaking regulations and beefing up powers of the industry watchdogs? https://lnkd.in/gVJE6niU #healthcare #healthcareaustralia #agedcare #agedcareaustralia #publichealthmatters #healthsystem

An interesting article as Australia heads in a similar direction as the pressure on our health system increases. Does a two health system work? Not according to the research . ‘What works to reduce wait times? Previous success in reducing wait times in the NHS has been attributed to central policies and extra money. The King’s Fund has previously published a report on how local trusts sustained reductions in waiting times and described no one easy solution — the factors involved included using sustained and long-term strategies, understanding local waiting list processes alongside directed forecasting and planning, and developing appropriate capacity such as increasing hospital beds and community care. Relying on an indirect effect of diverting patients to a parallel private system was not demonstrated to be as effective as these direct national and local initiatives. #universalhealthcare

How is the NHS crisis impacting corporate demand for health and wellbeing services? Broadstone's Head of Health & Protection Brett Hill analyses the latest PHIN data which finds that PMI-funded admissions are likely to exceed 610,000 through the financial year for 2023, which would be a record annual level. At this current rate of growth, these numbers could rise even further beyond 660,000 in 2024 as employers increasingly step in to support their employees' health. 💡 Realised after reposting Kelli's post yesterday that this is the perfect opportunity for another "What does HealthWork International actually do?" post. 💡 Yes, accidentally missed last week! However, we were super absorbed in some important work, for HealthWork Solutions, incidentally! What does HealthWork Solutions do? - Supports self-regulating health professional peak bodies with association management, secretariat and executive officer, and ancillary (e.g. newsletter, marketing), services - Helps un-regulated workforces take that critical step to professionalise, with expert advice - and know how! - on best practice governance and certification frameworks required - Consultancy services to self-regulating health professional peak bodies, wanting to respond to consultation (e.g. we supported TWO clients to make submissions to the Scope of Practice Review, Issues Paper 2 last week - and wrote our own!) or untangle the complexity of complying with external requirements, like a National Alliance for Self Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP) membership application Why us? Unparalleled expertise: a. Anne-Louise Carlton, former social worker with 30 years in roles connected with policy and health practitioner regulation. World Health Organization consultant with an impressive resume, such as recent completion of global literature review on health practitioner regulation: https://lnkd.in/geQCe6j4 and being instrumental in the design and implementation of Australia’s NRAS under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. b. Susan Nancarrow, former podiatrist, has literally written the book (co-authored with Alan Borthwick OBE) on the sociology of the formation, boundary setting (and what comes after!) for allied health professions: The Allied Health Professions. A Sociological Perspective (ISBN 978-1447345367) and has her own significant international track record as a researcher and consultant c. Kelli Rixon, sleep scientist, and foundational director of the Australian Council of Clinical Physiologists - first hand experience of the hard graft it takes to set up an allied health accreditation body, even before joining HealthWork Solutions and currently AHANA's company secretary, as well as General Manager of HealthWork Solutions Track record: - We provided the expertise in terms of health practitoner regulation and governance, which supported the Allied Health Assistants' National Association Ltd (AHANA) to establish itself as a peak body (2022-23),and continue on as secretariat, EO services and association management service provider - We supported the ANZCP to achieve full membership of NASRHP in January this year, through a significant policy project to align their framework with the M'ship Standards - Multiple WHO and other projects, including the two responses to SoP Review I mentioned earlier in this post. Contact Kelli Rixon to discuss your needs today!

‘Health MOTs’ planned for people aged 65 and over arriving at A&E in England | NHS | The Guardian People aged 65 and over arriving at A&E in England who appear frail will soon receive a “health MOT at the front door”, the head of the NHS will pledge. A&E units must start giving everyone that age a battery of tests to see if they are frail or have any other underlying condition and then arrange whatever care they may need. NHS England hopes the initiative will reduce the number of older people being admitted to hospital, and cut overcrowding, “trolley waits” and “corridor care” Service heads have said they must ensure by next April that all A&E units start offering detailed assessments of older people’s health. However, the service will only operate for 10 hours a day. It will be interesting to see if this new initiative works and helps provide more access to A&E and more preventative treatment, to avoid so many admissions. As an emergency physician, I've seen firsthand how our healthcare system can fail many people. The U.S. healthcare system is a mix of different programs, but it often leaves people without the care they need and drives up costs. We can learn from other countries that have found better ways to balance public and private healthcare. Countries like the U.K., France, and Singapore provide everyone with basic healthcare through public systems. They also offer private options for those who want and can afford more. This approach ensures everyone gets good care without high costs and long waits. In the U.S., we often focus too much on treating illnesses rather than preventing them. Other countries invest in things like housing and early childhood care, which improve health in the long run. For example, nurse visits for new mothers can lead to healthier kids and parents. We need to change how we think about healthcare. It's not just about having insurance; it's about making sure people can get the care they need, when they need it, and keeping them healthy in the first place. By looking at what works in other countries and focusing on prevention, we can build a better healthcare system here. It's time for a new conversation about healthcare in America, one that prioritizes access, quality, and long-term health. #healthcare #hospitals #health #doctors
