I have been waiting for the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟰 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 for quite some time now. The 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 is finally here and what an entrance it has made! So, last year, the easy access to generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Bard allowed businesses to create content on scale. You just put a templated prompt, generate output and with a little editing and keyword optimization, you’re ready with your content piece to be published. Some of these websites manage to publish 3X, 4X content that they have produced in their lifetime. It was fishy. Wasn’t it? See, I’m not against AI-generated content completely but if it’s there just to play search engine algorithms, and not helpful to the user, they have to go. That’s what is expected in this update. Google expects that almost 𝟰𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 will vanish after this update. Stay tuned for more! #googlecoreupdate #scaledcontentabuse #newupdates #google

Search engine rankings are shaking up again in Google's fight against AI rivals! The Google Search core update announced today was a clear clapback at AI-powered content made to game the algorithm. Google says it will prioritize "..more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search." There will be a fine line to walk to harness the power of AI for efficiency without falling foul of the new update. As always, high quality, helpful content with a unique perspective aimed at informing will do well. How else will Google look to combat increasing pressure on its major revenue stream as the home of search?

"Has Google gone downhill?" A question floating around as users notice more ads and less helpful content in their searches. This isn't just looking back with rose-colored glasses; recent studies confirm Google's battle with spammy sites in top results. Even though Google still beats Bing and DuckDuckGo, its dominance in the search world means its flaws stand out more. And now, with AI innovators like OpenAI and Perplexity AI stepping up, Google faces real competition. Cory Doctorow introduces "enshittification" to describe when platforms prioritize profits over people, leading to a sea of spam and ads. It's a wake-up call for Google to refocus on what made it a household name: delivering genuine, useful search results. As we peer into the digital horizon, the question is: Will Google adapt and thrive, or will the next generation of search engines lead the way? What's your take on the search engine saga? Are we ready for a change? #FutureOfSearch #Google #AIChallenge #DigitalEvolution

Search summaries will reduce traffic to the Websites that are the foundation of the @Google Search product, decreasing their revenue, making it less viable to run them, thereby diminishing the content Google Search can index eventually. Ultimately, this will weaken Google's Search product while it is unclear if a Gemini chatbot can replace lost revenue. What is remarkable is that Google feels compelled to cannibalize its own product (A for courage) - but @Microsoft's @bing and @X' @grok search summaries show where things are going. @sundarpichai -- Google to Roll Out AI Search Summaries to Billions by Year-End https://lnkd.in/gkHTYbn6 via @WSJ

Embedding Gemini AI directly into all Google products, including Gmail, Slides, Docs, Google Photos, and especially Google Search, is an extremely bold, risky, and dangerous move by Google. Some search results are simply incorrect or hallucinated by Gemini. In fact, certain searches are even faster when using the old method (for example, try searching for time zones). As Gemini becomes more human-like, it will directly impact billions of users who rely on Google every day and often blindly trust its results. This phenomenon is known as anthropomorphic trust. From a business perspective, this change will affect millions of online businesses whose primary funnel will be altered by the shift to a diffusion model optimized crawling strategy. What will happen to Google itself? 80% of Google's revenue comes from Search-based ads. Will people be liking LLM-populated search results that are gently infused with ads? What about blogs? Will we now be populating content directly into an LLM instead of the Google web crawler? #gemini

Google is cracking down on individuals who extensively manipulated Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) with excessive AI-generated content, aiming to reduce such content by up to 40% on SERPs. While AI can be a valuable tool for support, it lacks the autonomy to function independently, necessitating cross-checking and human input, at least in its current stage. It's crucial for users to navigate these advancements responsibly. May we be saved from the crossfire. via Search Engine Land #googleupdates #serp #searchengineoptimization

The Google leak feels like the bookend to the AI Overview release. Everybody going from dunking on poor search results (rightfully so) to being able to flag things that Google has misrepresented in the past. And the crazy thing? Really doesn’t change the best approach. Know your customers. Create ‘better’ content. Distribute, distribute, distribute. Review, rinse, and repeat. Still not easy, still not a guarantee to increase organic performance, but it’s the best way to do right for your customers. Both overviews and this leak are incredibly interesting and should be reviewed and scrutinized. But there’s no silver bullet that will dramatically influence this core strategy.

9moThis also means marketing teams would have to consider how they want their content to stand out-- be it a unique POV, digging into product team/internal team/SME insights, tying the product to the narrative, adding more social proof, or using case studies to build that trust. The generic GPT-generated outlines will no longer be enough since everyone else is doing it. Much needed update. :)
